My eventful journey home - Craig-o - 16-06-2012

Car was driving fine when literally within about 7/8 seconds the engine temp went from 60 to about 130....eek! Pulled over, popped the bonnet to be greeted with this:

Water bottle was completely empty, and before people moan about me not topping my water up, I check my levels religiously...the day before last in fact....and the water disappeared literally while I was driving Sad

Checked where the leak was coming from and there's what looks like a crack on the engine where the thermostat housing joins (where the steam is coming from). The RAC guy thinks it could just be the whole thermostat unit that needs to be changed but that crack is giving me huge doubts....he says the crack is on the thermo housing but it looks like its on the block to me.....will have to pull it apart and find out. More worryingly is the speed that the water leaks out....poured a whole 2 litre bottle of water in and within about 10-12 seconds it was empty again.

So long story short, this is how I got home:

When i left FCS there was a 106 rallye that had conveniently broken down just at the entrance to the park haha. RAC were putting it on the truck!
