WANTED, hints and tips to either bung or replace heater - shrimo - 28-05-2012 my heater matrix has just had an epic fail and now the inside of the car looks like a sunken battle ship witht the amount of water in it has anyone got any hints or tips on how to either bung the pipes or replace the heater matrix. the car is a 1995 306 cabriolet cheers in advance for any help shrimo Re: WANTED, hints and tips to either bung or replace heater - 4WayDiablo - 28-05-2012 Pull the hoses out the bulkhead and connect them there bypassing the matrix :-) Re: WANTED, hints and tips to either bung or replace heater - Connor - 28-05-2012 4WayDiablo Wrote:Pull the hoses out the bulkhead and connect them there bypassing the matrix :-)DO NOT DO THIS... Phil you should know better... Just block the ends of both pipes Re: WANTED, hints and tips to either bung or replace heater - shrimo - 28-05-2012 sounds a bit thick but which pipes am i bunging upand where are they WANTED, hints and tips to either bung or replace heater - ash240970 - 28-05-2012 There should be 2 pipes low down on the front firewall 1 in and 1 out(flow and return) there should be hoses connected to them. Disconnect these and block them off with a couple of short bolts preferably stainless ones with a bit of plumbers PTFE tape wrapped round the threads and jubilee clips over the hose. A hose clamp may help prevent coolant loss when disconnecting. If you don't have one a speed clamp or mole grips should do the job just don't split the hose by clamping too tight put a small bit of cloth round the hose first. You may want to replace the matrix later in the summer if you use the cabby in winter but put a day aside for it as it can take a while if you've never done one before. A new matrix can be picked up off fleabay for around £35 delivered. Oh and don't forget to drain the water by popping the bungs in the footwell from underneath then if you have acces to a wet vac get as much as the remaining moisture out as it will cause rust and horrible smells if left. See if you can get a load of moisture absorbing silica like you get those little sachets in boxes of trainers or sports bags pull up the rubber door seals and pull the carpet away and pop some in there for a week it so just to make sure. Oh and remember to replace the bungs in the footwells lol.
