7th of Feb and it will be (with any luck!). Believe me, I'm counting down the days lol

RE: Nialls GTi6 - Charging almost there - Niall - 19-01-2014

More done today.
Firstly, i only realised the other day i had a gear box to go in with the engine that looked a state so would be a shame to bolt that to a nice clean engine.

[attachment=12914]

Got that all painted up, everything bolted back on. Just got to fit the new seals and release arm bearings and thats ready to go.

Also got my ICV all sorted. Originally i was going to not bother with one and just use spark scattering to control idle but theres only so far you can go with that and don't want to be holding the throttle when the cars cold.
I bought a remote 2 pin one from a Volvo but this was no good to use with my ECU so just decided to stick with the standard one.

[attachment=12915]

[attachment=12916]

[attachment=12917]

Now it just needs plumbing into the inlet pipe and job done with that.

Also got my boost pipe routing planned out now and intercooler mounted.

[attachment=12918]

Mounted to radiator. Passenger side, the IC has a rear outlet that passes the rad perfectly so then can just go straight up to the throttle body but the drivers side was always going to be hard due to the inlet coming out the top at a 45 degree angle. So, whilst trying to work out where this pipe could go, i realised there was a perfect boost pipe sized hole in-between the lower rad hose and bottom of the expansion bottle so its going through there bringing it out directly below the charger so the overall length of pipes and joins is kept quite low.

only issue is getting a 180 degree bend on this...

[attachment=12919]

Im going to order a 180 degree silicone hose and see if i can get it tight enough on that.

Now just to get two tabs welded onto the IC so i can mount the oil cooler on top and jobs a good'en.

RE: Nialls GTi6 - Charging almost there - Piggy - 19-01-2014

You can get tight radius 180degree silicone bends bud

Niall if this is mapped and on the road on the 7th will you be bringing this to the bicester meet? Would love to see the finished result!

RE: Nialls GTi6 - Charging almost there - Niall - 21-01-2014

RE: Nialls GTi6 - Charging almost there - PUGNUT_XS - 21-01-2014

Can't wait to see it running.

RE: Nialls GTi6 - Charging almost there - Ben - 21-01-2014

Looking good. Is that radiator the standard type for your car or are you switching to a phase 1 rad for the space?

I always thought the PH1 Rads were identical to the other two but someone said the same to me last night as well. Does the ph1 not have the expansion tank mounted on the rad and if not, where is it?

Great, never seen a charged 6 in the flesh before and I really like this project!
Will be good to meet you and some of the other people on here as I'm hoping to go to at least one show this year.

RE: Nialls GTi6 - Charging almost there - Grant - 21-01-2014

Definitely pop along to a meet or two and make sure you get to the main shows. Although we all act like dicks to each other on here, i think this is possibly the friendliest bunch of people I've met. You'll love the shows Smile

How much has this cost you so far?

RE: Nialls GTi6 - Charging almost there - Niall - 22-01-2014

Including mapping, 2k but it could of been done cheaper

RE: Nialls GTi6 - Charging almost there - Tom - 22-01-2014

RE: Nialls GTi6 - Charging almost there - Midnightclub - 22-01-2014

I think anyone would agree, oil staying in the engine is always a bonus lol

Well thats it. Engine is finally built as some may have seen on FB the other day. Progress has been rather slow the past month as I've been doing all them little annoying bits that really do add up but its all done now. Was paid today so ordered all the final bits to fit it, mainly boost hoses and fans and this weekend is the weekend of the engine change Big Grin
