I think nial wins chris!

RE: Nialls GTi6 - Supercharging in process! - Chris - 16-10-2013

How? My wheels were on over two weeks ago?

RE: Nialls GTi6 - Supercharging in process! - sam - 16-10-2013

Because im fat, hungry and I want a burger so that makes me awsome! And I no it annoys you lmao

RE: Nialls GTi6 - Supercharging in process! - Niall - 26-10-2013

Right so few bits have happened but nothing really worth shouting about. Im in the process of hoarding engine bits for the engine rebuild but hoping by the end of the week, ill have all my engine parts so i can spend next weekend rebuilding my engine! More pics in the week Big Grin

RE: Nialls GTi6 - Supercharging in process! - Niall - 31-10-2013

So nothing has happened to the engine since the weekend. Just been hoarding parts which i have got almost everything i need now Big Grin

Bit of work done on the block last weekend

On call this weekend but providing i have a quiet weekend, the engine should be mostly rebuilt Smile

How well does that 'home brew' kit work;
Looks like it's done a good job! Have you measured after also, havnt taken too much off?

RE: Nialls GTi6 - Supercharging in process! - Niall - 31-10-2013

In the words of the virgin Mary, come again?
Do you mean the bore honing?

One of the best film quotes lol

What pistons and rods is that sat there? This is such a win project! Going to look good with that charger on there!

RE: Nialls GTi6 - Supercharging in process! - Dum-Dum - 01-11-2013

Needs clones and a 40mm drop.

RE: Nialls GTi6 - Supercharging in process! - Tallguy_2 - 01-11-2013

Well done Niall fair play for giving it a go!!!

RE: Nialls GTi6 - Supercharging in process! - ginge191 - 01-11-2013

Sorry, yea, the honing tool.
I would have though a machine shop would be a place to get that done? Is it as simple as "sticking it in" and drilling. Doublegiggedy

RE: Nialls GTi6 - Supercharging in process! - Niall - 01-11-2013

Why pay someone to do it when you can easily do it your self? The tool was £20 and I've used it several times now so it's already saved me money! It's not quite as simple as sticking it in and drilling but it's a fairly simple process and doesn't take long at all.

Tom, they are just standard pistons and rods that have had new rings fitted.

Nialls GTi6 - Supercharging in process! - Jonny b - 01-11-2013

What ιs the blades made out of bud? Strange tool you got there giggidy lol

Errm if I'm honest, I'm not sure. Its sort of like a grinding stone bonded onto the metal.

Nialls GTi6 - Supercharging in process! - Jonny b - 01-11-2013

So how do you know your honing completely central bud?

If he hasn't, it'll have to be solved with one thing.

M0AR B00ST Y0.

RE: Nialls GTi6 - Supercharging in process! - Niall - 01-11-2013

The 3 arms of the tool are sprung so they only apply the same amount of pressure on each arm no matter how central you hold the drill.

Think a lot of people get honing confused with boring. It will have taken off a stupidly small amount of material. All it does is score the surface of the bore for oil control.

Edit: This should explain it slightly better although its a bit mind numbing lol

Nialls GTi6 - Supercharging in process! - Jonny b - 02-11-2013

Nah not confusing ιt with boring bud, just used to seeing honeing done on machine not a guy with tool in a drill lol

RE: Nialls GTi6 - Supercharging in process! - cully - 02-11-2013

its glaze busting / Honing and as nial has done you can do it yourself just dont go mad Wink

You need to hone a cylinder to create a "rough" surface so the new ring will wear in and seat in the cylinder. Without honing the new ring will not seat and you will have power loss, greater oil consumtion, low compression and a poor running engine.

RE: Nialls GTi6 - Supercharging in process! - Curt - 02-11-2013

Exactly as above, all it does is break the glaze. I didn't think anything of it but then I've done it before.

Good stuff mate, keeping an eye on this Smile

That tool looks funky..! £20 sounds reasonable!

Nialls GTi6 - Supercharging in process! - Jonny b - 02-11-2013

Yeh as I said I know what honing ιs just never seen ιt done lιke that!

A machine shop will probably use a big machine which will be very accurate but these cheaper ones rely on a law of averages for accuracy. Its done a really good job actually but then, the bores were in a very good condition to start with in the first place.

We used them in the garage, good cheap tool and saves time

RE: Nialls GTi6 - Supercharging in process! - Niall - 09-11-2013

Well once the rain finally stopped today, i managed to get on with re assembling my engine.

Hoping tomorrow to get a few more bits painted, get everything back on the bottom end ready to bolt the sump on once its dry and probably get the head on tomorrow.

RE: Nialls GTi6 - Supercharging in process! - welshpug - 10-11-2013

them pistons came from a snapper then lol.
