Picasso 1.6hdi non starting - Piggy - 17-03-2018

Real random one...

Fixed up a 2006 Xsara Picasso 1.6hdi that I basically got free due to clutch/flywheel/limp.
Fixed all that.

Gave to a single mum of 4 in desperate need.

When it's cold. It won't start. Won't crank.

It will, eventually, if you keep trying IE keep turning the key to the start position. Sometimes after turning a few times, sometimes after 5minutes of turning the key!

If warm, fine it seems.

Battery is good (new)

No clicks from starter.

Anyone had anything similar? Lol

All earth's fine.

Had this on a Picasso before, turned out to be the crankshaft sensor

Only if it was cranking....

This won't even crank.

Does the immobiliser light flash? Some cars won't crank when immobilised, not sure about these though.

Has it been checked for fault codes?

Dodgy barrel perhaps. Or dicky solenoid that behaves once warm.

RE: Picasso 1.6hdi non starting - Piggy - 04-04-2018

No fault codes. Barrel always gives a signal. No immobiliser issues.
Assuming is the box of relays in the engine bay. Will be bypassing it soon

I just bought a Volvo 1.6 hdi with starting issues but that did click at the starter when you tried the key. It had a new starter fitted early last year and has a 760 CCA battery as it has stop start on it, that proved good when tested. I spent 15 minutes cleaning up the main earth to chassis bolt and terminal instead as threads were rusty instead of crawling around underneath it and it now starts off the key every time.

Yeah, the earth's can be really dodgy and known issues on these.
The picasso earth's checked out fine...but I did remove and clean and grease anyway.
Turned out to be the starter on this. No noise from it, but it was totally goosed
