If you could buy another project, what would it be? - Hobo Ash - 16-02-2018

So i'm sitting at my desk doing my standard office job stuff, dreaming of upgrading parts on the dturbo and learning how to rebuild and swap engines. But its got me thinking about what would I like to do after the dturbo and as i keep following a mk3 capri into work I keep thinking about them again! Would be cool to get a clean shell and then build it up of some slightly more modern internals and enjoy learning about them.
Main point of this thread is that I'm curious- if you guys had 5k (I don't have this but i hope at some point in my life il have some savings that i can put towards a nice project!) and you were going to spend it on a project car to work on at home, what would you buy?

Side note- i accept the dturbo will probably never be 'finished', but in my head there will come a time when it drives perfectly and is uber reliable Big Grin

Is a white 2.0S, few years back had the bodywork completely re done with fresh paint, loads of parts refurbed, now sits in his garage. Also has a MK4 XR3i which is undergoing similar treatment at the moment

what do you mean after the dturbo? dturbo is life!

all the capris have rocketed recently....

im looking at r34 skylines. has to be a 3 door and has to be a manual. GTTs are what im looking for. Theyre all 9-19k depending on what you want! Problem for me is... i cant tow with one, its too uneconomical for work, parts are expensive and I cant fit stuff in the back like I can the saab estate or the range rover... also it would pretty much overlap with the rallye so id use that less.... but... i still want one D:

Dont worry, the dturbo is for life, but at some point itl *hopefully* be reliable at the power i want and then il just enjoy driving it around  Big Grin but il still want something to mess around with at the weekend.

Skyline would obviously be amazing, would also be great to see one with a trailer on the back  lol

A supercharged Jag XK8. The £5k budget would be blown pretty quickly tho!!

Nice office job......I would get an other 306 estate, strip down the body to the last part, have the thing paint stripped, galvanised and then re painted. I would re assemble as standard as we like them, roomy, reliable ( except when wet !!!!! ), poky enough for us and good on fuel.

Wish tax was cheaper but in about 20 years time it will be tax and mot exempt ! I hope to be still driving at that time, else the lad can have it.

never buy a project, you don't know what the last bodger has been upto.

The tax/MOT exempt is no longer a rolling date fyi.

But my next thing would-be a tidy shell, strip back, widen and fresh paint.
