Lucas Pump leaking. HELP - wdoyle2410 - 05-02-2017
Hi all,
first time posting here.
I've got a 1996 1.9TD with the Lucas injector pump. It has had a small diesel leak for a while from around the injector pump and its getting much worse.
It's not obvious where its leaking from, there is no visible signs on the pump itself but it seems to be coming through onto the cambelt which makes me think its the main shaft seal. Would this be correct? and if so I'm assuming the pump has to be removed to replace it, so any tips on getting it out?

sounds like the main seal if its belt side of it.. Had it happen to mine.
Best way to fix it is to remove lucas pump and fit bosch pump

I wasn't planning on buying a bosch pump and injectors etc, just replacing the seal. How hard is it to remove the pump?

Not very , you'll need to go through the processes of changing the timing belt by locking the crank and cam into position then there's 3 bolts on the mounting bracket on the off side and one behind the pump on the gearbox side, release the cam belt tensioner and pop the belt off , remove pump etc , there's a great video by Darren on YouTube.
as said tho you'd be best switching to a Bosch while you are at it , also a good time to change timing belt and water pump while everything is locked up.
