So, my 1.6 306.

Was driving it yesterday and the engine management light came on.

I knew the oil was getting a bit toward low so I topped it off, no difference (don't know if oil level would even throw a management code anyway).

It starts, runs and stops fine - nothing has changed except there's a light on.

Easy (and preferably free) way to check what code got thrown?

If not, I'll either ignore it or take the bulb out...

Thanks for the offer - bit of a trek though, considering the engine light is on and everything Wink

Most likely lambda if it still drives fine, but yeah you need Pug Planet or something, there is no free way to read codes on these. If you're friendly with the local garage they may stick their scanner on it for free...

RE: Engine light - pdg - 03-10-2016

I have a usb obd module, but 'lost' the software years ago - I can't find anything that supports it for my phone (well, it would if I had a bmw apparently) so any ideas for simple reader software that'll run on xp?

Seeing as I don't get anything done at garages ever, I can't see them plugging in for nowt, even if I flutter my eyelashes at them Sad

RE: Engine light - Toms306 - 03-10-2016

Problem is, most 306s aren't OBD2 compliant so cheap generic scanners and free software don't tend to work. If it's a 2001 or later you may get away with it.

RE: Engine light - pdg - 03-10-2016

It's a 2001 on a 'Y' plate, so 'should' be obd2 compliant...

But, y'know how 'should' goes Wink

I might try one of the £3 Bluetooth ones off ebay.

Well, I dun did ordered a £3.69 obd dongle off ebay, it arrived today.

ICV went out of sync (and apparently came back)
Random misfire detected

Cleared faults, light gone out, doesn't come back on. Win.

Now, digital dash........
