Best timing belt kit and water pump? - JTaylor2005 - 21-09-2016

Hi guys,

Having not got much information about timing belt replacement in my cars history (Apparently at 39k miles or something and I am at 92k except it was done in 2007 so like 9 years ago!!) but no real proof. I have decided to get it done Smile

What kits would you guys recommend?

Mister-Auto has a fair few different brands.
Bolk - Febi Bilstein - DAYCO - Gates - Continental - SKF

Not going to bother with Bolk as they are like Mister-Auto's own brand ones so are probably cheap. Not sure who DAYCO are. Gates are apparently a good brand and continental are good as well. What would people think? I'd probably choose Continental or SKF as I know SKF are good for bearings etc as well.

The other weird part on that site is that sometimes there are two from the same brand. Too construction year 2000 and from construction year 2000. What changed haha? Mine was before 2000 so I'd get one of them of course but I'm just wondering if anyone knows the differences.

The choice for water pumps are
BOLK - Valeo - Febi Bilstein - Dolz - SKF

I would probably go for the Valeo or SKF ones as for an extra £4/5 they are probably worth the extra cost I would think.

Any advice would be great Big Grin

Thanks

Dayco is OEM.

Although I'd go on ServiceBox, find the part numbers, then find them on eBay. Usually ends up near enough the same price as any aftermarket brand.

I would say dayco or gates for the belt kit, and as you said either valeo or SKF for the water pump. Though you can get gates cam belt kits that also come with the water pump so that maybe worth looking into.

Though as Ruan said it is always worth looking up the part numbers and having a look on ebay as there can be people selling of genuine stock pretty cheap. Also looking up the part number will confirm which you need though i wasn't aware there's 2 different kits.

The belt is the same on all of the HDi's but they did change the roller and tensioner as I looked into it before buying a kit for mine.

The new ones are FROM 08561 build code.

Dayco belt, SKF roller and unbranded tensioner was what I got in the genuine Peugeot kit. I think they differ though, not sure. Waterpump is best to go genuine, I've seen some awful quality aftermarket ones.

Brilliant Smile Cheers guys.

The DAYCO kit doesn't say whether it's made for before or after the 2000 build year unfortunately :/

Had a gates cambelt/waterpump fitted on mine recently, was £62 on eBay when I bought mine, id go gates/dayco etc rather than anything else as you dont want anything other than the top OEM when the consequences of it failing would be costly!

o.e

speak to your local parts man, pug or citroen, many dealers are part of the trade club where common items like belt kits can be heavily discounted, dw10 i would imagine to be such an item and you may find them competitive ln price, i got an xu10j4rs belt kit for £45 for example.

Thats a good shout that is. I will ring up the Peugeot dealer near me and see what stuff they have Smile

Thanks

I would never use gates again after the fieasco over the crank pulley, still no real answer from gates!

Got oe pug kit from local pug garage ( local, 50 miles away, wow, really fancy space age dealer ship ) and nothing in the pug box was pug.

RE: Best timing belt kit and water pump? - welshpug - 21-09-2016

of course it wont be, they get people like dayco and ina and skf to make stuff for them.

RE: Best timing belt kit and water pump? - JTaylor2005 - 21-09-2016

They get external suppliers even right from the start for stuff like that. They just have much stricter tolerances and quality control than regular eurocarparts or cheap knock off brands Smile

Don't think I'd trust Peugeot to make something as important as a cambelt anyway!! lol

go away ford boy :p

RE: Best timing belt kit and water pump? - BiG K - 23-09-2016

For the waterpump, I would go with SKF, they are the world's top producer of bearings.
Continental belts will be fine - after all they are in the rubber business.
Dayco and gates are just as good.

Main thing though, is check the expiry date of the belt. Rubber has a shelf life before hardening up and fitting an expired belt means a higher chance of failure. Installation must occur prior to the expiry date.
