283mm 307 Brakes on a S16 - Pingaz - 12-09-2016

Hey !

I need some help, can I put 307 2.0hdi 110hp front brakes on my s16 ? They are 283mm with the 307 caliper, Is it worth to buy the 307 discs and caliper, or better go for the GTI 6 ones ? Are they the same ? Or the 307 are heavier ?

Because I saw on the Ferodo site that S16 and GTI says that the system is LUCAS/TRW and the back BENDIX. So in the front I put 307 Bosch brakes ?

Sorry for the dumb questions, I don't understand to much of this I'm just starting now ! Itwasntme Itwasntme

You should be able to fit them just fine. The make doesn't matter, so long as you buy the right pads for the calipers.

The 307 brakes are a bit heavier, yes, as they have more offset.

I'll have a set for sale soon with Braided lines

Well you have to post that to Portugal Sleepy
But, I don't know yet. because, if I get more money together, i would stick to the OEM ones (266mm) just for now. Then upgrade for 4 piston brembos with 283mm with 22mm central pump. With braided lines. I don't know about the central pump but still. they are 400€ together

So they are compatible with the 306 hub ? Or the offset will be diferent ?

But is just me, or the 266mm are not that good ?

I have the 307 282mm calipers, discs and pads. Everything fits fine but very tight under the 15" Laser alloy wheels. You will need the longer brake hoses from the 306 266mm Lucas calipers.

307 282mm calipers have a 55mm piston, same as the 266mm 306 calipers (iirc) vs the 306 GTI 283mm calipers have a 57mm piston.

307 282mm discs are also 4mm thicker, so the disc weighs a little more than the 306 GTi discs.

My 266mm brakes were great, but I made sure the rest of the system was spot on and had decent pads in there. Pissed all over most peoples brakes I've tried who just slapped bigger and bigger parts on there.

Wow, tell me the secret please ! My brakes sucks but... they need to be changed because the car didnt move for a long time.

Yes mine is a HDI, and has the same Lucas 266mm brakes as yours but with pagid discs and pads, depends how you find it as your running another 30 bhp on top of mine, but I find the 266s fine most of the time, id say just get some really good pads in and leave it at that as its much cheaper and will be just as good with less unsprung weight (unless your planning on loads of 100-0 stops)

Well i'll be honest, I've though on going to a track day, i'm about to order some Black Diamond braided lines (Don't know if they are actually good).

But i only plan to do 1 or 2 track days a year. Don't know if it's worth it going for a Ferodo racing 2500 and some OEM Discs. Probably try that and if i'm not to happy, i'll go with 4piston brembos with 283mm xsara discs Blush

But i'm open for some sugestions, incluiding for the track day !

I've heard that i didnt need longer brake hoses Huh

The 406 brembo's work with the 288mm Xantia discs. But you'll probably need 15-20mm spacers to get them under 15s. They also resonate like a bitch unless you get the Tarox g88 discs.

Pads for the 307 ones cost more and choice limited at least with the 6 ones the Clio pads are nice and cheap
