XUD to XU10JSRS conversion - Chris - 12-05-2012

Getting a idea of what's needed to do the conversion.
Obvs gonna need to swap the tank and fule lines out.
The bay loom will be changed to a ph1 6 one, along with the dials. Lift up reverse cabel too

Will be using a unlocked ecu. So it should all be plug and play really, got a complete ph2 for parts if I do the conversion, so the odds and sods needed will be readdly avalible.

Just thinking is there anything I've overlooked.

Its getting coilies, cambered beam, 21mm bars, 302mm brakes so that's all that stuff sorted.
Pas rack and arb will be swaped too.
Need a ph1 bay loom and dials for deffo though as the ph2 stuff won't work.

Seems like a lot of work... Why not just buy a '6?

You already have the engine in then, without the increased insurance prices, hassle of changing logbook etc.

That way you can also sell me all those bits you listed for sale the other day, rather than keeping them... Wink Wink Wink

As for not buying a 6, it'll cost me money. A good ph3 is a grand upwards, which I dont have atm.
I've got the dt, and the parts needed to fix and convert it and I can make the money back from purchasing the car stripping the rest of it.
Only thing it'll cost me is my time.

This is all pending that the car runs when I collect it.

Tax would be the same, as both 2:0 litre and pre 2001

Insurance might be a killer though...

Insurance will be declared for sure.
Wont be too bad I'm sure as a 6 is only like 100 more for the year over the dt.

You'd be surprised mate. I dont know your stats (ncb, driving experience etc), but an engine change can add a hefty amount to the insurance. I'm with admiral, and for a like for like engine swap it would have been an extra £600, or to put a turbo on, an extra £210. Wtf?!?! Lol
That's with 3yr ncb and driving exp... Just so you can compare.

Yer swapping an engine always costs loads more to insure than a "proper one". I was looking at a 1.2 corsa with a 1.6 in and was cheaper by about 300 quid to just get a 1.6 corsa lol. Just make sure you get a good engine, a lot of them are showing there age now and suppose to do cambelt every 30k and very regular services. You could just get the Dt running nearly the same power with a crap load more torque for the same if not less effort. Shame to say it but my mate had one than left my 6 in a line, i was not ammused lol

It's not as plug and play as you think...

You will have to play with the interior loom to get it to work.

And IMHO - the J4RS isn't all it's cracked up to be, from my experience.
