laptop & pc repair - Magenta Sunset - 21-05-2016 I've a couple of Dell's that I want to repair, one of each. is there anyone who can guide me through it, Parts etc, or, if close enough, do it for me for beer-chits? Laptop (Intel i5) req's motherboard & HDD + Win7 & BIOS PC (Pentium Quad) req's HDD & o/s. RE: laptop & pc repair - Eeyore - 21-05-2016 depends what the issue is with them? RE: laptop & pc repair - Magenta Sunset - 21-05-2016 they gave up the ghost. pc diagnosed as 'failing' HDD. laptop may have also had ransomware just want to source the correct part nums/parts, & re-install o/s RE: laptop & pc repair - insomaniac45 - 21-05-2016 Any hdd will fit as long as it is the same connection, you will have to peer inside the of to find out if it is IDE (seriously old) or sata There are 2 types of power 4 pin sata and 7 pin sata. 4 pin is older, just disconnect the cables to the hdd to find out, replacements are dead cheap. With the laptop get a CD of the operating system and as long as you still have the sticker for Windows with ledgiable numbers, do a fresh install. Simply put the cd in and follow the instructions on screen. I could have both done in about 3 hours as Windows takes about 2 to do fully. If you do re-install Windows, it will at some point as where you want to install it, choose to delete partitions and format, this will remove all data from the HDD and be like new. RE: laptop & pc repair - procta - 21-05-2016 switch the hdd to a solid state one, but you will need a 3 inch bay adapter RE: laptop & pc repair - Ruan - 21-05-2016 More than happy to do this for you. Let me know if/when RE: laptop & pc repair - Magenta Sunset - 21-05-2016 i'll prob take you up on that ruan. will contact Dell to see what the part num is for the laptop m/board. RE: laptop & pc repair - Eeyore - 21-05-2016 Yeh fit a new hard drive and then reinstall windows. Easy RE: laptop & pc repair - Magenta Sunset - 21-05-2016 that's the tower sorted then =D RE: laptop & pc repair - Ruan - 21-05-2016 (21-05-2016, 06:42 PM)Magenta Sunset Wrote: i'll prob take you up on that ruan. No problem! What's up with it? Won't power on anymore etc? Or random crashing... Bet I have a fix for it, slightly unorthadox, but might be worth a try... Can't be any worse than it is now... RE: laptop & pc repair - Magenta Sunset - 21-05-2016 tower just needs HDD's laptop iirc fried/goosed m/b + new HDD. old HDD's professionally terminated. RE: laptop & pc repair - Ruan - 21-05-2016 I bet it's a classic problem that the BGA soldered CPU with lead-free solder has cracked due to heat cycling and needs reflowing. Mainboard out and bang it in the oven at 180*C for a bit. It's worth a shot as you can't make it any worse. RE: laptop & pc repair - cully - 21-05-2016 lol Xbox style repair RE: laptop & pc repair - Magenta Sunset - 21-05-2016 knowing my oven, it'll melt into a gooey mess. (absent minded here) the main thing for me, is it's a rare factory red one, almost the some shade as my Diablo RE: laptop & pc repair - tigerstyle - 21-05-2016 (21-05-2016, 08:13 PM)Magenta Sunset Wrote: the main thing for me, is it's a rare factory red one, almost the some shade as my Diablo An older dell xps m1530??? Then if the mobo is broken it is likely to be the GPU, fix as per Ruans instructions! (let him do it!) RE: laptop & pc repair - Ruan - 22-05-2016 Pretty much the same issue for 90% of laptops from the same era, cpu, gpu, nb, all using lead free shitty solder and they crack... A reflow in the oven usually fixes it RE: laptop & pc repair - Magenta Sunset - 22-05-2016 (21-05-2016, 09:44 PM)tigerstyle Wrote:(21-05-2016, 08:13 PM)Magenta Sunset Wrote: the main thing for me, is it's a rare factory red one, almost the some shade as my Diablo Inspiroin 15R N5010 - I think Ruan, you're welcome to have a go. |
