Thermostat screw - Dangti6 - 13-05-2016 I've a sheared thermostat screw (gti6 engine). Is it a standard thread? I'm hoping I can get the remnants out without damaging the threads in the housing! RE: Thermostat screw - insomaniac45 - 13-05-2016 is it too far gone for easy outs? might want to warm the area up with a tourch, then quench it with wd40 or plus gas, this will help draw the wd40 or plus gas in and help free off the thread, then try easy outs ![]() RE: Thermostat screw - powerandtorque - 13-05-2016 Standard M6x1 thread from memory Dan RE: Thermostat screw - RetroPug - 13-05-2016 I can't remember precisely what thread but yes it's a standard size and a normal bolt works fine. RE: Thermostat screw - Dangti6 - 13-05-2016 Thanks for the replies guys. I was very lucky to be able to use a tiny screw driver in the centre hole and undid it effortlessly. It was longer than I'd anticipated so it was easy to compare to another screw to check the threads and confirm they are standard M6 pitch. |
