Low speed fan fault? - JTaylor2005 - 09-05-2016

Alright guys. I am having problems with the low speed fan. If I am sat for a while or after a hard drive and then I stop for a bit the temp spikes but no fans kick in :/ is this most likely the relays or fuses etc? Both fans work fine at full speed when I unplug the temp sensor.

Remove the front grill, in a triangular box, there's a bunch of relays. iirc, some of these control the fans and could be corroded.

There's also a loom fault, underneath the front bumper, water gets into the loom connection and corrodes.

RE: Low speed fan fault? - toseland - 09-05-2016

it might seem like a silly question but do the fans come on at all?

pull the temp sensor and see if the engine goes into emergency mode and throws the fans on

RE: Low speed fan fault? - Jonny81191 - 09-05-2016

Iirc he's already checked and they do come on at full speed

RE: Low speed fan fault? - cully - 09-05-2016

as big K says check relays and loom plug on the fan cowl

RE: Low speed fan fault? - toseland - 09-05-2016

I missed that bit lol, quick read during a lesson (naughty me)

RE: Low speed fan fault? - JTaylor2005 - 09-05-2016

Haha rebel.

Okay will try and have a look. I am struggling to remove the stupid plastic cover bit at the top of the rad. The part that's the same colour as the paint work. I don't really have the right tools to pop the clips out :/

RE: Low speed fan fault? - toseland - 09-05-2016

you don't have a screwdriver?

RE: Low speed fan fault? - Toms306 - 09-05-2016

Lol, even a knife or spoon pops those out! The middle has to come out of the clip first BTW.

RE: Low speed fan fault? - cully - 09-05-2016

if you are lucky you can prise the centre pin out to release the rivet
if you are unlucky you punch the centre pin into the panel releasing the rivet
and if like me get so fecked off with the stupid things you bin them and fit rivnuts so you can bolt the panel back on Wink

RE: Low speed fan fault? - JTaylor2005 - 09-05-2016

Ahhh that type of clip Tongue I just beeb pulling at them thinking they are like the pop out type haha cheers Big Grin will go and have a look now

RE: Low speed fan fault? - Toms306 - 09-05-2016

Or if you're the previous owner of my car you just whack in mismatched wood screws at jaunty angles in the hope of holding it on... Rolleyes

RE: Low speed fan fault? - JTaylor2005 - 09-05-2016

Well so far I have snapped the top of one so looks like I'm gonna be using wood screws as well Tongue lol

None of them lived haha. All the tops just sheered off on them all lol

Still won't come off even with the clips out and the bolt removed

RE: Low speed fan fault? - Toms306 - 09-05-2016

The hockey sticks under the lights might be holding it? Have fun breaking the tabs off those...

RE: Low speed fan fault? - JTaylor2005 - 09-05-2016

Got fed up and washed the car instead haha

RE: Low speed fan fault? - Ruan - 09-05-2016

What temperature is it spiking to?

And by that I do not mean what temperature the dashboard says - I'm talking about what the ECU thinks as that's the temperature that the fans are controlled via.

RE: Low speed fan fault? - JTaylor2005 - 09-05-2016

I have no pp2000 and no idea who has one by me so I can't check.

It's fully bled has a brand new decent thermostat so it must be the gauge that's showing too high I would think

RE: Low speed fan fault? - Ruan - 09-05-2016

As someone else pointed out, 306s are OBD compatible, so a Bluetooth OBD adapter and Torque on your phone and you'd be away.

RE: Low speed fan fault? - JTaylor2005 - 09-05-2016

Sweet. One like this do you reckon?

bummer! Huh

RE: Low speed fan fault? - Toms306 - 10-05-2016

There are loads that work with an elm cable on windows as well. All my car programmes work on win10 except pp2k now.

RE: Low speed fan fault? - Ruan - 10-05-2016

Yeah, they're all ELM327 interfaces - you can probably get a USB one that will work easier with Windows and you'll just need an application which will work with an ELM327 interface. Tom can probably suggest something..

RE: Low speed fan fault? - JTaylor2005 - 10-05-2016

Oh sorry it does work with windows by the looks of it but you will need a laptop with blutooth I suppose mate Smile

RE: Low speed fan fault? - BiG K - 10-05-2016

You don't need those clips for the grill... there's a bolt which holds it on well enough! haha
