'Black' Masking Headlights - c.gerrard - 09-05-2012

Just a few questions.

First, with black masking crystals, I'm assuming that people use a matt black paint, wondering if a gloss black would work just as well or if anyone has or seen what it would like in graphite (rims are going to be that colour, so it would match them)

Also, they almost, slightly, nearly, kind of, dont fit in the oven (which is how i've heard you separate them), is there any other options?

Cheers

use whatever paint you want, gloss or matt is fine

other options are heat gun or if you have depo's then you may be lucky with a hot hair dryer Big Grin

I used a hair dryer for mine (depo)

Re: 'Black' Masking Headlights - c.gerrard - 09-05-2012

Brilliant cheers, so I would have to hold a hair dryer over it for about half an hour then! What do you mean by depo? is that a make?

Might have to get vengeful with a hammer Big Grin

Re: 'Black' Masking Headlights - spike2002 - 09-05-2012

Yes depo is the make if you have got valeo you will probly struggle to open them with a hair dryer if you have depos it can be done with hair dryer just heat a section at a time and gently prise them open Smile as i did in them pictures Smile

Re: 'Black' Masking Headlights - Jonny81191 - 09-05-2012

heat gun will work.. bring them over at some point, I'll get them apart for you

Re: 'Black' Masking Headlights - spike2002 - 09-05-2012

^^^^^ this if you have valeo Big Grin

Re: 'Black' Masking Headlights - Eeyore - 09-05-2012

heat gun works a trick but dont burn yourself like somebody i know did ninja erm... gloss black would probably look better than matt black tbh. Ive been thinking of doing mine in ford sea grey so will have to see how it goes!

Re: 'Black' Masking Headlights - kingy - 10-05-2012

good luck with this mate. matt/gloss black imo.

Re: 'Black' Masking Headlights - mark_airey - 10-05-2012

I was going to say what Jonny said Smile I will get them apart........

But is Jonny is having a go then standard procedure is to give me a ring once he breaks them lmao

Re: 'Black' Masking Headlights - Jonny81191 - 10-05-2012

I won't break them.. anyway, there's a spare set here, and Carl has 2 sets. It'll be fine!

Re: 'Black' Masking Headlights - Chris.M - 10-05-2012

Lets not lie, you do have a tendency to break things Tongue

The graphite looks nice. Smile. Been wondering where the yellow sundance went to Smile.

Re: 'Black' Masking Headlights - puglove - 10-05-2012

Be very careful with a heat gun a dont force it as you will snap the lense as i found out lol, oven FTW every time, iv done 4 sets via the oven now and it 100x easyer

Re: 'Black' Masking Headlights - Jonny81191 - 10-05-2012

just be more patient with a heat gun, then ease the lens out, don't force it!.

Re: 'Black' Masking Headlights - Jonny81191 - 10-05-2012

45 mins at gas mark 7 or until it's golden brown

Re: 'Black' Masking Headlights - c.gerrard - 10-05-2012

I like the graphite, doing them black just seems a bit too 'typical'

haha remember its not food and wont taste nice Big Grin

'Black' Masking Headlights - kentiiboii - 10-05-2012

I usually just whack it up full n hope I don't burn anything. But as for head lights no idea Sad

Re: 'Black' Masking Headlights - cwspellowe - 10-05-2012

50 degrees roughly, good temperature to melt shit

Re: 'Black' Masking Headlights - kingy - 10-05-2012

im on it like a tramp on luke warm chips.

Re: 'Black' Masking Headlights - mark_airey - 10-05-2012

lowest setting possible for the oven and leave them in for like 20 mins ish (until they are nearly too hot to touch) and then use a heat gun to keep it warm where the glue is Smile
