Coilpack Conversion - mackat - 12-03-2016

In preparation for fitting something to the front of the engine, wanted to change out the coilpacks for leads.
Would these be suitably and could they still run on the standard ECU:

thanks

Standard ecu runs individual coils, the set up advertised is for wasted spark when running aftermarket ecu on bodies etc

RE: Coilpack Conversion - Stef205 - 12-03-2016

as said you cant as the oem ecu runs full sequential ignition you would have to change ecu and loom to do this.

RE: Coilpack Conversion - miles - 12-03-2016

Why an earth would you want to use HT leads and a external coil pack? they fail just like the normal ones and are found on loads of PSA car's even 405 and BX models,

Thanks for the replies Chaps -

Reason for asking was reading up on the Omex throttle body and ECU kit: http://omextechnology.co.uk/page46.html
And in there it was saying:
"The 2.0 variants of the Mi16 engine use a coil-per-plug ignition. The standard throttle body kit cannot control these coils, so you must either change to a DIS wasted spark coil pack as above, or if you must / want to keep these coils then the kit can be upgraded to the Omex 710"

RE: Coilpack Conversion - Stef205 - 13-03-2016

if you plan to use omex ecu then use the xsi coil pack its much neater, Thats what i use and i know niall uses too.

RE: Coilpack Conversion - Blandy - 13-03-2016

Yes as said if using omex you will need to swap to wasted spark. I've got the same and have used both a coil and leads and also the xsi pack. Makes no difference just what ever you prefer. The xsi pack does look neater but does require the individual coil mounts to be chopped off in order to fit.

If going he lead route I got a brand new coil and leads for around £50

RE: Coilpack Conversion - Niall - 13-03-2016

I use a XSI pack on the SC6 as Stef says. You have to grind off the mounts on the cam carriers for the original coil packs so there is no going back but it works. You also have to take the cover off of the xsi coil pack as the oil filler cut out is in the wrong place.

Cheers fella!

Does anyone have any photos of their setup so I can get a rough idea?

Small change of plan, looks like I'm going the Jenvey route and not Omex bodies. Means I'm not longer tied to the 600 as the emerald has a couple more features I like.

@Blandy - that the XSI coil?

You can see the coil and leads in this pic bolted to the side of the head

You can see in these pics what needs removing if fitting a xsi coil pack

The xsi pack does do away with having to mount a coil somewhere but both do the same job so just down to preference

Right... Now I understand  Blush

Thanks for that.. XSI coil it is!
