Best upload video to youtube and link it here.

If it's grinding or whining it's probably knackered lol, I've killed a few on 1.4s. lol

have you ever watched an old prissoner of war film were they dig the tunnel from were they are doing a concert and sneek out during the show and they have built a hand crank machine with rubber flaps to make it sound like clapping? that the closest thing i can liken it too lol

RE: transmition noise - Toms306 - 30-08-2015

That's the best description of a noise I've read in a while... lol

Rubber claps doesn't sound like gearbox though, it should be a metallic noise! Sounds more like an arch liner has dropped from that. Get that video up lol.

thank Jebus it worked lol

its the knocking sound you hear but it not metalic sounding and you only get it when moving

RE: transmition noise - Toms306 - 02-09-2015

Hmm, tbh it's hard to tell from that. Sounds more like a driveshaft there. Confused Could be a bearing in the 'box though, it's not the same noise as I had in either of mine.

Don't know how competent you are but could you drain the gearbox oil? See if the magnetic drain plug is full of iron filings or even a gear tooth?

RE: transmition noise - gazthegnome - 02-09-2015

took the plug out and it had loads of filings on it

RE: transmition noise - Poodle - 03-09-2015

Sounds f*cked tbh, but there's a lot of background noise, it's hard to tell. For it to be mentioned on the mot it must have been fairly bad.

RE: transmition noise - Toms306 - 03-09-2015

Loads of filings probably means it's f*cked then. Should only be a few at most.

RE: transmition noise - Alan_M - 05-09-2015

I've just drained the oil from my 1.4 and found gear teeth on the plug, yet it didn't sound like that! Mine would do the typical clunk on tight & slow left hand corners. Is that sound whilst on the move or at idle?
