That was quite a challenge to take on for my first welding project, passed MOT with no advisories today thankfully.

RE: Danny's rusty transit. - procta - 18-06-2015

how the hell do these rot? i would have thought they would have sorted that out now!

RE: Danny's rusty transit. - Seb_Ryan - 18-06-2015

Meh thats not that bad tbh! Mk5 is it? We had 1 the other week and it was literally the plastic step holding it together

RE: Danny's rusty transit. - Danny Wideboy - 18-06-2015

No mate, late mk6, 2005 plate.
They actually rot quicker than the mk5s.
The other side had a lot of treatment as well, nowhere near as bad as that side though.

Outer side loading door sill next, gaffa tape won't last forever...

Well done danny

Some epic welding there Smile

Efa.

Dad's got rust spots appearing in the middle of otherwise perfectly clean side panels on his 58 plater. Rofl

Decent job you've done of sorting that out, nothing like chucking yourself in at the deep end.

Fair bit of plate welding Sir!

RE: Danny's rusty transit. - Danny Wideboy - 19-06-2015

Cheers fellas,  easy to get flamed showing welding on a forum.
Especially when it's a first proper project.

Transits FTW.
Have welder.Will Transit.

That end result looks bloody good mate! Top effort.

RE: Danny's rusty transit. - Poodle - 20-06-2015

Meh, for a first go at bodywork (especially on as cheap and thin metal as a transit...) that's pretty good imo. Fair play for posting it, like you say it's pretty normal to get heavily flamed lol. People like to pretend everyone should be perfect from the word go, just like they were... right? Wink Should have seen one of my earlier attempts, between the owner not doing the prep promised, f*ck all gas and the wrong wire, inexperience barely got a look in, but the flaming came strong all the same. Rofl

RE: Danny's rusty transit. - procta - 20-06-2015

danny did you teach your self to weld?

Yeah, I thought it was obvious.  :-)

RE: Danny's rusty transit. - Danny Wideboy - 03-07-2015

Now needs discs, pads and a clutch slave.
And some places to store my tools n shite that can turn into a bed when I go camping,
I have ideas for this.

RE: Danny's rusty transit. - procta - 03-07-2015

danny why don't you convert this into a camper?

RE: Danny's rusty transit. - Danny Wideboy - 04-07-2015

Coz camper vans are no good for carrying packs of bricks and motorbikes.
It will be a dual purpose van, with storage for tools that retains the load area and pulls out into a bed with a removable unit for a small cooker and sink.
Going moto gp in august for 3 days and want it sorted for then.

Administration.

This thread is useless without pictures.
I have more to add but it makes no sense to add more to this thread as it is.

Can it be mended please?

This post was nearly 4 months ago in the bugs thread.

Sorted out the sliding door sill the other day.
