GTI6 Radiator Buying Advice - Eeyore - 09-06-2015

Hi All,

Never had to replace a rad in my life. The radiator is bust on the 1.8 as its leaking from the bottom passenger side. I presume 1.8 and GTI6 rads have the same inlet and outlet points. Whats the best one and place to buy? Ive heard Nissens? thrown around in the past?

thanks

Nissens are oe that's why. I have one on mine. Very happy with it. I can get you a trade price on one if you message me as your local. Smile

Gti and 1.8 ones are not the same. The gti one has a small outlet on the expansion tank for the oil cooler however if I was you, buy a gti one, buy a ASH bung for that outlet and fit it then when you break the 1.8, you can fit the rad to your rallye Wink

Bash can you get me a price for a GTI6 nissens rad?

Niall any idea on the bung size? Presume you mean a piece like this? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ASH-Silicone-Hose-End-Blanking-Caps-Cap-Off-Bung-Silicon-Rubber-Finisher-Pipe-/221295382064

Working on various 6's I've encountered two different bottom hose designs Sam, ones the bayonet type with a hook each side that hold it together with the flange on the rad inlet and the other has a circlip fastening like on the top hose to thermostat housing connection.

Nissens do both styles of rad so check what hose connection you've got on the 1.8/rallye. If they're different on each car I imagine you could just swap the bottom hoses when it comes time to change the rad anyway.

Just a heads up from what I've discovered lol

bin the oem rad design and go for a thicker but smaller rad to allow more air to your BODIES! Big Grin I use a modified renualt 5 turbo rad holds the same amount of water as the oem rad but in a smaller space. Just a idea. Smile

Cheers for the advice guys. Stef does the r5 rad need some custom mounts fitting etc? got a link to one and any photos of how youve fitted it?

the only picture i have that will help you out is from a few years ago when i ran bodies.

its real easy to mount it has 2 mounting stalks that i drilled a hole for them to sit in, the gti6 lower brace should be ideal for it imo, i then mounted the oil cooler rad next to it both it perfect air flow. The rads come ive varies of thicknesses so be careful ive got a 35mm core version atm but im going to upgrade to the 62mm core version! They are great quality coming from china to and at £55 delivered i cant complain!

Nissens ones are great. Run slightly cooler than stock and are also a bit lighter when empty.
