oil cooler mounting? - impotentials - 16-05-2015

So I have finally after 9 months began to fit my oil cooler.
decided to fit it infront of the rads and cut out a section of the bumper instead of fitting it behind. More flow and all that.

just wondering if anyone else has opted for this method and if so how have you gone about it? Cheers.

Thanks, I assume your air con is deleted?
Trying to keep mine.
looks like its only mounted by a single bolt each side, is that strong enough?

looks like its only mounted by a single bolt each side, is that strong enough?

non air con as rallye , 2 flexi fixing points ,yes strong enough

That was mine I added another bracing mount and sprayed it black.ill get a picture of it tonite as I have a bit cut out of the grille aswell

So what's peoples thoughts on which way up to mount. Outlets at the top to keep it full of oil when the engine is up to it's correct when you check the level or outlets at the bottom as the hottest oil should rise to the top and the coolest at the bottom making it more thermally efficient.

interesting question, ive never been sure but mine was already mounted just no plumbed in so left it with outlets on bottom. In all fairness its only a small one and it works a treat on track - in fact if anything the oil runs a little cool when not on track now...

I'd say that the flow of oil is too great and the cooler too small to see any difference in cooling due to thermodynamics.

That aside I'd say to mount it sideways, with hot oil coming in at the top and cold oil exiting in the bottom, that way you get a cross flow between the oil in relation to the air, when the car is stationary and fans are off.

Smooth driving not heavy footed. Really dropped mine.

At 50mph cruising with no hard driving do you really want your oil temperature to be lower than standard?

Nò, thats why im asking, wondering if my thermostat is over compensating, it was droppingto around the 75 mark when normally Its around 90, sounds to good to be true.

oil temp and water temp are two different things
depending on how your system is plumbed you could get lower water temps and a higher oil temp in comparison

general on my system ive found the water temp has dropped slightly but the oil temp is maintained at around the oil stat setting

I can't really comment on my water temps as my cooler went on with my new engine and mapping but i have noticed that on a run, the car will sit in the high 70s and probably about 85 oil temp (which i think is the temp the thermostat for the cooler opens?)

Here's mine that I mounted yesterday. 

Two L shape brackets with m8 size holes drilled out to bolt the cooler to,  welded in place as I cba with drilling more holes and seems much more secure this way

yes i think i put in a little over half litre extra when i fitted my 16 row
