O/S Grumble under cornering left - ginge191 - 28-03-2015 Finding a grumble under cornering, usually at speeds over 40mph and corners which are quite tight, when turning left, the grumble comes from the O/S, feels from the wheel and grumbles through the wheel and on the pedals. Turning right is absolutely fine. It's not every corner and is usually when having a slightly more spirited drive than a commute into work drive.. Could this be a bearing? If so, how can these be replaced; pressed in professionally? new hub? CV issue? RE: O/S Grumble under cornering left - cully - 28-03-2015 jack it up check for play by holding the wheel at 9 & 3 oclock and feel for play and again with hands at 12-6 oclock if you feel play at both id say wheel bearing RE: O/S Grumble under cornering left - ginge191 - 28-03-2015 (28-03-2015, 04:30 PM)cully Wrote: jack it up check for play by holding the wheel at 9 & 3 oclock and feel for play and again with hands at 12-6 oclock I checked that last time i had the car up; when i changed the drop links, and there wasn't any play, on either side.. Does it matter the positioning of the wheel to detect a bearing issue? RE: O/S Grumble under cornering left - cully - 28-03-2015 bearings do get pitted so it would be worth turning the wheel to different positions RE: O/S Grumble under cornering left - ginge191 - 28-03-2015 (28-03-2015, 04:37 PM)cully Wrote: bearings do get pitted so it would be worth turning the wheel to different positions Okey doke, will have a go next time it's up. Any other possibilities or anything to check? RE: O/S Grumble under cornering left - Connor - 28-03-2015 Does sound like a wheel bearing, ive had this before where I could get it to rumble but couldn't feel any play RE: O/S Grumble under cornering left - ginge191 - 28-03-2015 (28-03-2015, 06:54 PM)Connor Wrote: Does sound like a wheel bearing, ive had this before where I could get it to rumble but couldn't feel any play How can these be replaced; pressed in professionally? new hub? RE: O/S Grumble under cornering left - cully - 28-03-2015 yes they will need pressing out then the new being pressed in or change the hub complete for a second hand good one RE: O/S Grumble under cornering left - Strikeforce - 29-03-2015 to save some cash get a new bearing and take the hub off yourself, go to your local garage and ask him to simply press the old bearing out and press the new one back in. Cost me a fiver RE: O/S Grumble under cornering left - aircool - 29-03-2015 CV is usually clicking on full lock. Grumbling / droning in certain situations usually is wheel bearing related (possibly a tyre?). RE: O/S Grumble under cornering left - ginge191 - 31-03-2015 Update on this. Had it up on the lift and had no unusual sounds or signs of a bearing problem  RE: O/S Grumble under cornering left - Connor - 31-03-2015 Read what I wrote mate RE: O/S Grumble under cornering left - Strikeforce - 31-03-2015 (31-03-2015, 10:39 AM)Connor Wrote: Read what I wrote mate +1 there was no play in my bearings but they was still shot! RE: O/S Grumble under cornering left - Poodle - 04-04-2015 Yeah, what connor said, as often as not there's no play in knackered wheel bearings. Get that wheel off the ground and give it a good spin, you'll be able to hear it if you get your head close to it. Are you sure it's the front? It can be hard to tell where the noise is coming from, especially if you're not used to it. |
