Engine rebuild - jfb - 29-01-2015 Hi! Does anyone know a good guide or set of videos to guide me through an engine rebuild. Sounds mad but I fancy buying a cheap 306 1.6 petrol engine and rebuilding it! What's involved and is it fun? J RE: Engine rebuild - darrenjlobb - 29-01-2015 Best way to learn is doing just what your thinking of doing ![]() There are plenty of engine rebuild videos on youtube, although likely none on that specific engine, the same principles largely apply to all engines... The 8v TU is a very simple / straight forward little motor to do... So a good starting point. Is it fun? Depends really, but you will learn a tonne about how the engine works, and get a good bit of experience in the process imo Engine rebuild - jfb - 29-01-2015 Good to hear its a good engine for it! Any particular tools I'll need do you think? Is that engine aluminium? Wary of stripping bolt threads ! Where could I find out how much that engine weighs? Thinking a swivel engine stand might be pretty handy ! RE: Engine rebuild - John1.4 - 30-01-2015 the 1.6 tu's are mostly iron, but i'd always use torque specs for everything anyway, stripped / sheared bolts are always a possibility with every engine, think they're about 150kg from memory, |
