Fastest car for under £2000 challenge... - Kezzieboy - 28-11-2014

I've been pondering of late how far 2 grand will get you, so the challenge is thus:

Who can find the fastest car for sale in the UK for £2000 or less?

I figure we'll have 2 categories; standard and modified, and there has to be quantifiable figures to prove their pace. Nothing subjective, nothing to do with lap times, just power, torque, weight and acceleration.

Game on!

RE: Fastest car for under £2000 challenge... - Niall - 28-11-2014

Are we talking road worthy cars? E.g sold for less than £2000 with mot?

RE: Fastest car for under £2000 challenge... - Eeyore - 28-11-2014

I feel like this challenge is fairly easy... search V8 on ebay. Under 2000. BIN.

Jags!

3.2 V8

4.0 SC V8 - Possibly as its on auction.

Straight line fastest or through the twisties? If its the latter its obviously a 306... lol

With the rear seats removed of course. lmao

RE: Fastest car for under £2000 challenge... - Eeyore - 28-11-2014

Oh yeh we were talking fastest.... so i presumed straight line million miles of road what car would reach the highest top speed. If its twisties then a supercharged 6 obviously.

RE: Fastest car for under £2000 challenge... - Pompey306mark - 28-11-2014

Are we talking top speed or out and out acceleration over a distance?

Those big jags will be quick and have a high top speed, but power to weight might take a hit as they are heavy ass cars.

Replied as I posted lol.

RE: Fastest car for under £2000 challenge... - Dum-Dum - 28-11-2014

PPC used to do the £999 challenge, fastest car you can buy/build for under a grand. It was usually crash damaged 4wd rally machinery with the boost turned up that won.

Even with double that budget I'd be looking at something Jap with 4wd and a turbo, Impreza, Celica GT4, Skyline or a 300ZX. Grand on the car then a grand on a f*ck off turbo, intercooler and a cheap remap.

RE: Fastest car for under £2000 challenge... - r3k1355 - 28-11-2014

You've gotta set some rules otherwise people will argue which car is faster round the track, and therefore which is best.

Top speed only
Must have MOT
Must drive away
Driven in the condition it was bought

RE: Fastest car for under £2000 challenge... - silverzx - 28-11-2014

As DumDum says, any old turbo Jap, bigger turbo, supporting mods (injectors, fuel pump & intercooler at the minimum) and a remap should probably be about as quick as you can get for that money.

Alternatively, chunky V8's: BMW, Merc, Lexus, Jag.

RE: Fastest car for under £2000 challenge... - bigcheez2k3 - 28-11-2014

A 7 series with the biggest engine could be got under 2k. I imagine they go pretty quick.

Not as quick as you would think. They are big thirsty engines but designed more for smoothness and comfort rather than speed.

And head unit fascia removed.

Possibly a Fiat Coupe 20vT with some software on...

If not, a real shoddy E36 M3?

RE: Fastest car for under £2000 challenge... - Iceman299 - 28-11-2014

Good luck finding an e36 M3 for under 2k!

RE: Fastest car for under £2000 challenge... - Kezzieboy - 28-11-2014

I did clarify on most of the points that people have asked about, but anyway.

Judged on power, top speed and acceleration, lap times have too many variables. Must be roadworthy, or able to be made roadworthy easily within the budget. Points lost for auto gearboxes, to make it a little more challenging.

RE: Fastest car for under £2000 challenge... - Eeyore - 28-11-2014

then its easily a subaru or something turbo jap for that money.

RE: Fastest car for under £2000 challenge... - ADV_93 - 28-11-2014

T5 Volvo...

not to shabby for the price and not to thirsty either

A subaru is something turbo and jap not an alternative to something turbo and jap surely?

Erm...not sure I would wana be aiming for 150mph+ in a starlet Confused

RE: Fastest car for under £2000 challenge... - Seb_Ryan - 28-11-2014

What about nissan pulsar? They are rapid tbh

RE: Fastest car for under £2000 challenge... - Orta - 28-11-2014

When I read the thread title it reminded me of a thread on briskoda about cheapest car you could get with a 1.8t in it.

I think the fiat coupe turbo isn't a bad shout, but otherwise you'll be looking at something from the early 90s from Japan

Probably not but by f*#k it'd be fun getting there lol

RE: Fastest car for under £2000 challenge... - Kezzieboy - 29-11-2014

Anyone found any ads for cars that fit the criteria? Just saying jap turbo isn't very descriptive :-P

RE: Fastest car for under £2000 challenge... - Seb_Ryan - 29-11-2014

Tbh i think you could build a westfield type kit car for that ans have it QUICK my running gear and frame was about 300 (ok alot of man hours to make but that doesnt count does it?) buy a fireblade engine and itll be rapid.. The 1 we had was alot quicker in a straight line than a 400bhp evo..

RE: Fastest car for under £2000 challenge... - Kezzieboy - 29-11-2014

That's a good shout, kit cars go for silly cheap and are properly rapid in terms of acceleration at least.
