BottomHose Coupling Seal - Pugant06 - 04-11-2014
So after nearly 7 dry years of ownership my Pug has developed a slight water leak from lower water hose coupling at the radiator. It's the 'spring clip' type of coupling and I intend to replace O ring seal soon. However, I understand that corrosion on bottom hose sleeve might be reason for leak and not seal itself. So question is, has anyone reassembled one of these joints successfully with a generous smear of silicone compound either side of the seal? A new bottom hose is not cheap!!!!

Yep several times. Old seal off, clean it up with a wire brush. new seal is 60p from pug (careful, they do two sizes) and refit with a smear of grease. Done

1343 Z4 - later type bottom hose seal ring + top hose seal ring to thermostat housing

Thanks for the info guys - Will go a new seal and hope only minor corrosion on hose sleeve.

nope, Stan was so wrong.
1339 94 O-RING DIAM INT 31 EP 3,6
is for the top hose.
1343 Z4 ENGINE WATER END-PIECE GASKET DIAM 31-38 EP 3,5
is only for the bottom hose.

Welshpug are you sure the two are different as I've fitted the same square profile ring to both the top and bottom hose
I'm sure the o,ring is for the earlier lower hose with the plastic clips

OOPS - Have I started something here - LOL. Mines the later 'spring clip' type bottom hose connection. 'O' ring seal?

yup, top hose one is fatter

the 1351X9 earlyer bottom pipe uses the 133994 O-ring
the later 1351Z3 & 1351ZV pipes use the 1343Z4 end piece seal
each top hose I have taken off has always had the square profile ring not the o-ring?

Ok I seem to be a pikey then. Grab an o ring out the box of 700,091,726 I have in my workshop bang it in. Job done.

Well disconnected hose from rad, cleaned off corrosion and fitted new seal lubricated with silican grease and reassembled. Thought it felt a lose fit when I pushed it back in place. It's leaking worse now
Replacement seal from Peugeot was square section and same as one removed. I now regret not smearing area with instant gasket on assembly. I can only assume that I removed too much material in the groove that seal sits in when cleaning up and its not seating tightly. Might try and get O ring seal that's oversize next attempt. Any ideas?

SORTED
Reassembled again with new seal smeared Granville instant silicon gasket and now still dry after a good bleed and 100 miles use.
Now why the hell did I not do that in first place

because if its the correct seal there's no need and tis a right bodge?
