having trouble - Matt - 24-10-2014 Having trouble finding the locking point for the crank under the starter, all I know is its a hole under the starter and Hayes just tells you to lock the fly. Can anyone get a picture or a good of what it looks like. As I turn the wheel I had a look under, can see fly moving and has a square hole at 12 and 6 RE: having trouble - daniel909 - 24-10-2014 take your started off it only three bolts the you and get to the hole alot easier RE: having trouble - Matt - 24-10-2014 Can you do it without? As I have a tendancy to mess up electrical stuff so would rather not disconect and remove things lol RE: having trouble - silverzx - 24-10-2014 Modified paint roller XUD fly locking tool required? Can send you one for £10 posted. ![]() RE: having trouble - Toms306 - 24-10-2014 You can do it without removing the starter but probably not if its the first you've done. You don't need to remove wires though, just push the starter back out of the way. RE: having trouble - Piggy - 24-10-2014 Paint roller for the win!! Its a round 8mm hole just above a block casting lip. You wont be able to ser the flywheel moving through it from any angle with engine in the car! This is what google images threw up: ![]() Its a d8a block that but gives you the idea RE: having trouble - Matt - 24-10-2014 Right how do I go about removing the starter then? I don't really tend to do much to the car anymore and.my knowledge is shit. Treat me a noob haha RE: having trouble - Toms306 - 24-10-2014 Its just 3 large Hex/Allan bolts on the gearbox side. Cant really miss them lol. ![]() RE: having trouble - Matt - 24-10-2014 Bastard dont think I have the tools for those. Was hoping they'd be smaller. Only have a basic kit atm seem to have lost a lot of my tools while moving house.lol RE: having trouble - Toms306 - 24-10-2014 Oh dear. ![]() In that case just keep poking around up underneath the starter lol. RE: having trouble - Seb_Ryan - 24-10-2014 As piggy said, and ive said many times.. Get a paint roller, rip the roller and plastic bits off bend the longest bit by handle slightly and itll go straight in without taking starter off lol RE: having trouble - Matt - 24-10-2014 My hands are too bloody big for this and I've poked my Allen key into several diffetent holes now. No luck aha Gunna have to get a helping hand from someone I think. RE: having trouble - Seb_Ryan - 24-10-2014 Have you got a little mirror? Should be able to see and guide it in, paint roller isnt a 100% tight fit so should FIND the hole lol RE: having trouble - Matt - 24-10-2014 I'll see if I can find a paint roller. Ironic as I should have one ![]() RE: having trouble - Matt - 24-10-2014 Where is the hole in relation to the third starter motor bolt, I've moved the wires and can see down the back of it, can see the end of the rear bolt is it near that? Heading into town now so I can get a roller lol RE: having trouble - Matt - 24-10-2014 Right back from town no rollers :/ what size are the hex? Gunna ask a local garage if they have any tools I can borrow. Failing that can I lock it any other way? RE: having trouble - silverzx - 24-10-2014 You can lock the cam and pump. Why do you want to lock it? Whats being done? Pump change or? RE: having trouble - Matt - 24-10-2014 Doing cambelt. Locked the crank off now, but both the cam and pump pulleys don't line up with there holes. Can I lock the bottom and move the other pulleys independently? RE: having trouble - Toms306 - 24-10-2014 No, don't move the pulleys! ![]() It's not locked in the right place if the cam and pump pulleys are out. There are 2 holes in the fly iirc, sounds like you've locked the wrong one. RE: having trouble - Mattcheese31 - 24-10-2014 His timing has slipped though Tom RE: having trouble - Toms306 - 24-10-2014 Ah ok, didn't realise that! In that case, yes, you'll have to move them independently... RE: having trouble - Matt - 24-10-2014 My belt has possibly slipped that's the reason for replacement I have rotated the engine 4 times everytime the lock fot cam is almost there, and then it goes past ever so slightly and click. It's locked on the crank. The bolt to lock of the cam.sits just slightly past the lock. The edge of the bolt touches the edge of the bolt hole. It's the same with the pump exactly the same amount past the pump locking hole Ahhhh okay so move them once the belt is off. Can I move them slightly anti clockwise or do I have to do a full rotation? RE: having trouble - Toms306 - 24-10-2014 Yep, just move them slightly when the belts off. Anyhow ill be loosening the tensioner and taking crankpulley off tomorrow after work then sort the belt, should hopefully have it working tomorrow fingers crossed RE: having trouble - Toms306 - 24-10-2014 Strange double post after 2 hours lol |
