Renewing suspension bushes/parts - lolsteve - 14-10-2014
Which bushes would be best to focus on renewing as in which tend to wear out quickest?
I'm thinking of replacing the lower engine steady bush with poly bush as there's a bit of a her when lifting off the throttle sometimes along with kangaroowing at low rpm.
Also thinking of replacing tre s and getting tracking done but is it worth replacing tre s as a general service item to improve handling or just when they fail?
How about top mounts? How can I know if they need replacing?
Just trying to get the car to handle as it should when combined with some goodies I'm in the process of sourcing

And it's the rover , I replaced the brake reaction bar (tie bar) bushes with super flex race spec ones which are suppose to make a big difference but I didn't notice anything so been wondering if the rest of the front suspension is slack would it be hiding the improvement s

Or you're more honest than 90% of people about whether or not spending money on mods has made a difference to your car... Just putting it out there.
Get someone to help you find the worn parts and replace those, else you'll very quickly and easily spend a grand on bushes and balljoints. You will be able to feel the play in anything that's worn enough to be worth replacing.
Is the brake reaction bar the arb? Only place i see that name is on stuff that's 50 years old and i'm sure it can't be the same thing...

It's called brake reaction bar or tie bar. It's connects the wishbone to the front subframe. Item 16

Fair enough, just on bumpy/pothole roads the steering can seem a bit all over the place combine that with bouncy suspension and you have an annoying drive to work
How about poly engine mounts? Heard people going with solid on here but saying they have too much vibrations

The tie bar is, in simple terms, the item that makes the lower arm into a wishbone!
Sounds like the rack needs centering, you need some fresh dampers and it all needs setting up a bit better.
Although a good inspection of all the bushes and joints wouldnt hurt.

You dont want solid engine mounts. Not on a daily. Even on a daily/track car people normally just go solid lower and rubber tops. In diesel the vibrations are great but in a petrol they seem to be less but it will still be an annoyance in my opinion.
As poodle said dont just go replacing things willy nilly. See what is worn or what parts are a worthwhile upgrade. For a 306 id say the lower mount is crucial. Suspension wise not sure there is anything that stands out. Doubt the ball joints will be worthwhile if there is no play in them. I would be concentrating on your 'goodies' that we discussed the other day!

Ah i see, not seen that terminology before.
The steering will feel uneven on bumpy ground where the dampers are shot dude, differing load means differing grip levels and hence steering feel.
