2-way radios/walkie talkies. - kentiiboii - 23-09-2014 Me and a few friends have decided to buy 2-way radios for when were out driving and convoying. But we've just been wondering if they are legal to use or not? Im pretty sure they are, but wanted a second opinion as I cannot find any recent information. Im pretty sure some of you on here use them. RE: 2-way radios/walkie talkies. - cully - 24-09-2014 i would say they are classed the same as mobile phones so let your passenger use them ![]() RE: 2-way radios/walkie talkies. - Dum-Dum - 24-09-2014 Not legal. Police officers aren't allowed to use a hand held radio while driving but using the push to talk button for the vehicle radio while driving is OK RE: 2-way radios/walkie talkies. - Slam Wagon - 24-09-2014 We use the binatone lattitude 150, cheap but not too cheap and do the job, you can get earpieces for them which i presume would make them legal? RE: 2-way radios/walkie talkies. - Matt-Rallye - 24-09-2014 so basically mount it on your dash and hey presto its legal ![]() RE: 2-way radios/walkie talkies. - Grant - 24-09-2014 I use this setup. Works really well with about a 3km range on the country roads. Never been pulled over for using it, not that I'm endorsing its use on the highway at all.. RE: 2-way radios/walkie talkies. - Ollie - 24-09-2014 Get CB radios, Theyre legal. RE: 2-way radios/walkie talkies. - 1616six - 24-09-2014 (24-09-2014, 01:48 PM)Ollie Wrote: Get CB radios, Theyre legal. Don't you then have to have a stupid 6ft aerial on the roof with a huge magnet? RE: 2-way radios/walkie talkies. - maxlee - 24-09-2014 no you can get smaller ones now some of its pricey tho depending what your looking for but it's a case of fitting it in the car etc etc 2-way radios/walkie talkies. - Ollie - 24-09-2014 (24-09-2014, 01:52 PM)JJ0063 Wrote:(24-09-2014, 01:48 PM)Ollie Wrote: Get CB radios, Theyre legal. Well yea though a small 3ft will be more than enough for convoying. The magmount is handy to pop on and off as well. RE: 2-way radios/walkie talkies. - 1616six - 24-09-2014 I'd stick to walkie talkies personally.. much eaiser! RE: 2-way radios/walkie talkies. - Matt-Rallye - 24-09-2014 CB is easy, install it once and not worry about it, rather than have to be buying batteries or constantly charging walkie talkies with naff range. CB's are better for convoy as you can still keep in touch if someone gets lost or takes a wrong turn and ends up miles away ![]() Also works as communications in the event of a zombie apocalypse.... *runs off to panic buy CB radios* RE: 2-way radios/walkie talkies. - Grant - 24-09-2014 (24-09-2014, 02:09 PM)Matt-Rallye Wrote: Also works as communications in the event of a zombie apocalypse.... *runs off to panic buy CB radios* ![]() Glad its not just me who plans for these eventualities. RE: 2-way radios/walkie talkies. - Matt-Rallye - 24-09-2014 I remembered that scene from die hard 4.0 ![]() RE: 2-way radios/walkie talkies. - Piggy - 24-09-2014 (24-09-2014, 01:48 PM)Ollie Wrote: Get CB radios, Theyre legal. Im not entirely sure thats true. If you take the microphone piece in your hand to talk while driving I think Im right in saying you could be fined for that. Maybe DD will clarify RE: 2-way radios/walkie talkies. - Toms306 - 24-09-2014 Wouldn't it be easier to use your mobile phone on a mount with bluetooth? RE: 2-way radios/walkie talkies. - Grant - 24-09-2014 Problem is signal. Often mine drops out on the way to car meets, and it's a pain to have to keep dialling somebody to talk to them. Radio is quick and easy, just hit a button and go. RE: 2-way radios/walkie talkies. - Toms306 - 24-09-2014 Ah ok, fair point. RE: 2-way radios/walkie talkies. - Dum-Dum - 24-09-2014 Gotta say I am very tempted by a CB radio for shows, I know alot of the cornish lot have them. RE: 2-way radios/walkie talkies. - Poodle - 24-09-2014 Used two-way radios all the way round europe, if you're driving a normal car (ie not stripped out to f*ck) you can use a spider mount on the dash and hear/be heard just fine. 2-way radios/walkie talkies. - rocker8742 - 24-09-2014 Won't be legal to hold it while driving mate, you could go all out and fit a vehicle version with hands free but it wouldn't be cheap Best bet would be to have a mount on the dash and just press the button on the side Company I work for do this stuff at business level so know a fair bit if you want any info about kit or law ![]() RE: 2-way radios/walkie talkies. - Adam-m-h - 24-09-2014 Midland 78 Cb radio with a mag mount and speaker wire to fag lighter, also if you get lost/bored a few folk use them still ![]() 2-way radios/walkie talkies. - Ollie - 24-09-2014 (24-09-2014, 03:00 PM)Piggy Wrote:(24-09-2014, 01:48 PM)Ollie Wrote: Get CB radios, Theyre legal. [attachment=19241] Re: 2-way radios/walkie talkies. - kentiiboii - 24-09-2014 So they're not legal? RE: 2-way radios/walkie talkies. - Piggy - 24-09-2014 It is technically legal it seems due to a small side law...however if seen using one whilst driving in certain situations you could be fined for driving without due care and attention...just like if you had a sandwich in ya hand! Re: 2-way radios/walkie talkies. - kentiiboii - 24-09-2014 So just depends if copper wants to be a bell end at the time? RE: 2-way radios/walkie talkies. - deggerz - 24-09-2014 To be honest if they're not legal I am writing to the BBC and personally giving Clarkson and crew 3 points and a 60quid fine RE: 2-way radios/walkie talkies. - Ollie - 24-09-2014 (24-09-2014, 08:29 PM)kentiiboii Wrote: So they're not legal?
