If you're sticking with your original shocks, personally I'd advise only going as far as -40mm...I had -60mm springs coupled with the standard shocks on my DT, and Niall will agree that it ended up very crashy and quite uncomfortable. If you DO go -60mm, get some uprated shocks. Wink

RE: lowering springs -60mm - Piggy - 12-09-2014

yeah for sure.

I would try -40mm first if I were you, be surprised how low 60mm is. And the back end on your car John doesnt look like a 60mm drop!

RE: lowering springs -60mm - John1.4 - 14-09-2014

my thoughts are if there's some 60 springs for say a hdi or gti then they won't lower nearly that on the little 1.4, otherwise yeah i suppose 40mm would be enough

RE: lowering springs -60mm - Niall - 14-09-2014

Get 40s. Even that is too much really for standard shocks. Even B8s which are designed for a shorter spring are only designed for 40. Any more and you start to loose damping basically which makes it very sketchy and no fun to drive.

RE: lowering springs -60mm - WiNgNuTz - 14-09-2014

Well the DT was fun to drive, just not round the roads near Grant's place! lmao

RE: lowering springs -60mm - Piggy - 14-09-2014

Or be irish, and dangerous, and get saxo springs?? lol

RE: lowering springs -60mm - John1.4 - 14-09-2014

LOL nope, not going there, prefer my cars safe thanks Tongue

RE: lowering springs -60mm - maxlee - 14-09-2014

saxo springs was fine on my hdi estate wheels tuched the arch alittle bit from time to time and it looked like i was drunk missing the pot holes normal day no? Big Grin

RE: lowering springs -60mm - Piggy - 14-09-2014

Saxo springs, as mentioned and as stated in their title, are for saxos. Not 306s. You are making your car dangerous by fitting them.

RE: lowering springs -60mm - powerandtorque - 14-09-2014

I've got a set of Xsara VTS ~50mm lowering springs if they're of any interest?

I got them to try on my 205 GTI-6 as 205 springs don't deal too well with the additional weight, but I didn't end up using them so they're now surplus.

RE: lowering springs -60mm - Piggy - 14-09-2014

VTS strurs arent a bad call as they are slightly shorter I believe.
Although 1.4-gti weight is quite different, no?!

Love how a thread for "wanted - lowering springs" has turned into a "don't do this, you should do that" thread

How about just keeping it on topic?
