cam followers - cully - 21-08-2014 quick question can the followers be removed and replaced without removing the cam or disturbing the cambelt? RE: cam followers - Poodle - 22-08-2014 Didn't think that was possible on ohc engines tbh, certainly can't think how you'd go about it.... RE: cam followers - Jonny81191 - 22-08-2014 Yeah, there's no way you'll do that unfortunately. Cam has to come out ![]() RE: cam followers - Ruan - 22-08-2014 Only way you might do it is if you can force the hydraulic lifter down, should give you enough room, but frankly you're likely to damage shit in the process!! RE: cam followers - cully - 22-08-2014 thanks guys will pas the info on maybe a spare hdi on the drive soon its running like a bag of shit on 3 cylinders theyve swapped the injectors out and its still the same i suspected lifters on No 3 cylinder but the guy is confident its not, il just sit back and buy it for scrap if available ![]() RE: cam followers - Ruan - 22-08-2014 Yeah, probably a broken rocker tbh! Winner! RE: cam followers - Seb_Ryan - 22-08-2014 Ive seen it done on a low blow astra, slightly undo the head slightly and push it in with a screw driver, I wouldnt do it like that, but It has been done lol RE: cam followers - Toms306 - 22-08-2014 Can't see it just randomly breaking a rocker or lifter though? RE: cam followers - Ruan - 22-08-2014 Sometimes does - they're designed to be a weak point in the engine rather than the valves bending, you'll snap the rockers instead. Sometimes they're a bit too weak!!! RE: cam followers - Toms306 - 22-08-2014 Ah I see, that makes sense. RE: cam followers - Poodle - 23-08-2014 Has anyone actually ever seen a knackered lifter on one of these? I know people have been getting the wrong end of the stick and banging on about dead hydro lifters for years, but has anyone ACTUALLY seen one? RE: cam followers - cully - 23-08-2014 well its not the followers broken! what next? RE: cam followers - Toms306 - 23-08-2014 Compression test? Injector wiring? RE: cam followers - cully - 23-08-2014 don't think they are telling me the whole story! apparently its been overfilled with oil ? will that give a misfire? RE: cam followers - Poodle - 24-08-2014 Could do yeah, the extra oil will force it's way past the turbo seals and the engine will run on it, causing rough running if not an actual misfire. RE: cam followers - londondan86 - 24-08-2014 Compression test ideally mate would be next. Is there much crank case pressure?? RE: cam followers - cully - 24-08-2014 car starts ok and runs all but under powered and lumpy with lots of smoke there maybe atleast 1.5ltrs of oil too much in the engine *grins* im only a bystander thowing info and looking on, im not holding the spanners on this one as the bloke has no money and wants everything for free which i wont do RE: cam followers - Toms306 - 24-08-2014 Hmm, I'm not sure too much oil would cause those issues, the 206 I had was way overfilled when I got it (either that or it'd been so long since a change that diesel had thinned it to raise the level). But there were no adverse effects from that at all, not quite sure how much overfilled but most of it just fell out of the gaskets and seals as usual. ![]() What colour is the smoke? Can't you try PP on it? Doesn't take long and I'm sure he could give you something for doing that? RE: cam followers - Poodle - 26-08-2014 1.5l?? Hahahaha yeah that'll do it, want to drain the extra out and see how it runs like that before chasing anything else imo. |
