I'd prefer one with a steel cable tbh

RE: Winch for 4x4 - Piggy - 03-08-2014

After being at billing land rover festival and being in a 1hr winching seminar....steel cable is not a good idea.

Proper synth cable is stronger and safer. Also dont get a roller guide as they pinch. And make sure you get a compatible bumper to suit it.

Make sure the cables are also long enough to go direct to battery, inc the earth.

That one you have linked to seems to have all the right stuff...but 13000lb is WAY over the top.

Thats 13000lb vertical lift....you'll never need that. Plus it will be very slow. Between 7/8k lb will be plenty unless you're pulling trucks vertically up a cliff?!

Also worth getting a block and tackle Smile also dont see a tree strap/wrap in that kit which is a mega must for winching!

♦ Line Pull - No Load: 19.8 m/min (80 Amps)
♦ Line Pull - Full Load: 1.9 m/min (530 Amps)

What about that, looks to be fast

Iv already got snatch blocks and tree straps, only other thing i think i dont have is a ground anchor

RE: Winch for 4x4 - maxlee - 03-08-2014

you can never have a way over the top winch buy the bigest one you can aford the bigger it is the more under worked it will be
lasting longer (sure you know that though)

RE: Winch for 4x4 - Piggy - 03-08-2014

Not bad. Its a balance. You also dont want it to be too fast, you'll cause yaself injury if it goes wrong!!

RE: Winch for 4x4 - maxlee - 03-08-2014

unless its fitted to a sj it will never be to fast i don't

unfortunately, steel is nasty.. dangerous and not worth it..

Warn, winchmax, are both good..

16000lb is overkill but itll winch faster under higher loads, both are good

i personally would go with warn, better solonoids.. but they cost more.. Plasma rope is the best you can get.. there are others available but thats the best

with winches more money is definately more quality.. although from that sort of price you are simply looking at faster

DEFINATELY DEFINATELY DEFINATELY get yourself a synthetic cable, much safer
