coolant flow - Piggy - 02-08-2014

I'm getting to the point of being so tired I'm going mad...

Anyway...

I can't quite work out in my head which way the coolant flows through the oil/coolant heat exchanger plate...

From stat housing to rad or the other way round?

I would have said stat housing to rad? Yeah? Undecided

RE: coolant flow - Piggy - 02-08-2014

Anyone confirm this? Smile

RE: coolant flow - ginge191 - 02-08-2014

I thought it went pump > rad > stat > etc

RE: coolant flow - Piggy - 02-08-2014

Well hot water enters the top of the rad...via the stat...so it must flow that way surely?

RE: coolant flow - Toms306 - 02-08-2014

Yeah, it must go towards the rad...otherwise you're just putting hot water through hot oil which isn't gonna help anything...

RE: coolant flow - cully - 02-08-2014

flows from engine to cooler to rad when the stat is closed as it is used to heat the oil to operating temperature

when the stat opens

flows from engine to top rad hose and the flow through the cooler is slight as its more restrictive than the top hose

Pump - head - heater matrix - pump

when the stat opens..

pump - head - heater matrix - stat - radiator - pump

I think the 2.1 had a slightly different matrix return flow toseland.

Im basically trying to work out where to take a feed for the turbo coolant jacket. I need a supply and return

RE: coolant flow - Piggy - 03-08-2014

any thouhgts? I need coolish flow into turbo and then somewhere to dump the flow back into the system. Needs to be constant too, not reliant on stat opening etc
