Halfords Advanced Pro Torx Bits - Toms306 - 03-04-2014

Do they come under the warranty?

It doesn't cover moving parts iirc? And the end of my T30 Torx has moved into a new home in a droplink bolt. Dodgy

In all seriousness though, not overly pleased as this kit is only a couple of weeks old! This Torx socket bit seems to made worse than Advanced Pro Torx rail which I bought a few years ago....which is what I carried on using without issue.

I take it I just go in with the broken one and they'll give me another?

Tom

Yeah they are covered providing you can prove they weren't misused but most stores just swap them without question and some even without the receipt.

RE: Halfords Advanced Pro Torx Bits - powerandtorque - 03-04-2014

The torx bits are by far the weakest part of the kit in my experience and I've lost count how many T30's and particularly T40's I've broken over the years, but they've always been swapped out without question Smile

(they really don't like being used with an impact hammer on stubbornly seized torx bolts Blush )

RE: Halfords Advanced Pro Torx Bits - Toms306 - 03-04-2014

Not sure I even got a receipt as bought online. Might be an electronic one somewhere I guess.

Will see about swapping it tomorrow then. Smile

RE: Halfords Advanced Pro Torx Bits - powerandtorque - 03-04-2014

My receipt has long since disappeared as my kit is over 10 years old now!

(well, some of it is - the rest is more like Tiggers Broom)

RE: Halfords Advanced Pro Torx Bits - Toms306 - 03-04-2014

Not sure Tigger had a broom, I know he used to hang around with Pooh...

lol

Re: Halfords Advanced Pro Torx Bits - Tyronnster - 03-04-2014

I changed a few an no issues at all.

RE: Halfords Advanced Pro Torx Bits - tigerstyle - 03-04-2014

Swapped one for me with no receipt without question.

Sad

Judging by the replies it should be easy enough to change then. Smile

I've broken 2 of my torx bits and I only bought the kit at Christmas. I've lost one in the interior of the black 6 somewhere.

One of mine broke, took it in and they replaced it with no hassle...except not just the one bit, a whole rail with 6 on it Big Grin

Wonder if I can get a while rail, saves me emptying the 6 to find my missing one.

Lucky bugger! Tongue

RE: Halfords Advanced Pro Torx Bits - Eeyore - 03-04-2014

Yeh go and get it swapped tom.

RE: Halfords Advanced Pro Torx Bits - Slam Wagon - 03-04-2014

Need to take me 3/8 extension in tomorrow, snapped it trying to undo my engine mount. Got to give credit to the ratchet as thats still working fine.

RE: Halfords Advanced Pro Torx Bits - C.A.R. - 03-04-2014

It must be the season for it, I managed to just make a Halfords 10mm socket explode trying to undo a seized bolt haha! Never had it happen in quite such spectacular fashion before.

RE: Halfords Advanced Pro Torx Bits - Toms306 - 03-04-2014

Don't think I've ever seen a socket explode lol!

Well except the wrong one being used on an impact gun anyway lol.

RE: Halfords Advanced Pro Torx Bits - C.A.R. - 03-04-2014

It was weird, managed it earlier tonight. Was just a slightly rusty bolt (the one holding the snorkel to the slam panel) and I'm guessing the socket was old / perished. I did hammer it on, but it was undoing fine then suddenly exploded lol luckily I had more than 1 10mm socket...

RE: Halfords Advanced Pro Torx Bits - Ruan - 03-04-2014

The torx bits go real easy if you put any side loading on them... Once you make sure you apply force directly, rather than yanking at a funny angle... I've snapped a few and it's always from not having it in right or using it at a funny angle...

Re: Halfords Advanced Pro Torx Bits - kentiiboii - 03-04-2014

My dad just bought a draper set instead, think it's draper.

RE: Halfords Advanced Pro Torx Bits - nominous - 04-04-2014

I use the Halfords stuff extensively, but I also bought a set of Toolpro ?? impact sockets on ebay about ten years ago. £12 or so for 15 long sockets right up to 32mm.
They have resisted some epic abuse.
The 32mm especially, using it as protection when driving out a ZX rear stub axle in a scrappy with a big hammer.
Also come in handy as drifts for pressing out bearings with.

Need to get the service bits for a couple of ratchets. The replacement of which is never as good as the original tool.

RE: Halfords Advanced Pro Torx Bits - Chris_90 - 04-04-2014

I've had a few snap on me, swapped with out receipt several times Smile need to get my self a new socket set tho lost most of mine now Sad working on other people's cars with 2 sets of tools is always asking for trouble.

RE: Halfords Advanced Pro Torx Bits - Toms306 - 04-04-2014

Swapped this no bother today. Smile

I was counter holding a droplink bolt with a spanner undoing the nut, wasn't any real force on it at all tbh. Confused

RE: Halfords Advanced Pro Torx Bits - Slam Wagon - 05-04-2014
