Opinions please - Matt - 09-03-2012

I'm looking to do something with my exhaust.
Those that have heard it will no its stupidly loud.
I have a straight through middle section and a cheap big bore back box
They are joined by sloting the back box into the middle pipe.

My options are

1. Somehow make a standard back box fit the straight middle.
2. Fit a standard middle, and weld a flange on the bore backbox
3. Complete standard setup.

I kinda want the sound. But not as much as I have now.
Big bore exhausts have the rep for sounding shit on there own
What will a straight through with a standard box sound like?

Oh btw I've got a 2.0 xsi btw Smile
Opionins please Smile

straight through with a standard box sound like

id be willing to bet thats the best option

Not sure how I'm going to make it fit lol.

Do backboxs all have the same size flange? No matter what engine? If it does I may be in some luck.

I just need 1/4 of a mid section. The bit with the rear flange. Cut it up wedge it in my current box and weld. And join the mid box too the centre as norm Smile

I would also say straight through with standard back box! Would sound ace!

Well hopefully going to sort tho by the end of the month, so got some sizing to work work etc, and find a welder

Re: Opinions please - Curt - 10-03-2012

I'm thinking it may be a bit too quiet for you then mate Wink, I know what you're like! As centre sections are straight through anyway, only with some sound deadening around them so shouldn't make THAT much difference.

It's a tricky one though as your set up is a bit... unusual haha. But, I'd say go for that, you could then get a slightly more subtle aftermarket back box on if it wasn't what you want...

Why not get a resonator bung for inside the tip? easiest option and you can make it loud again by removing it if your feeling anti social Tongue

Re: Opinions please - 4WayDiablo - 10-03-2012

One of my mates pikied a butterfly valve into the tip but wasnt too bad. Controlled the noise well

where do you get them? I've had a search and found nothing lol

Re: Opinions please - mark_airey - 10-03-2012

Google "exhaust resonator bung" there are some on eBay, what size is it? And is the tip round?

Opinions please - Matt - 10-03-2012

The tip is round, I haven't actually measured it, but looking at the bungs they look kinda gay. Lol think I'm just gunna stick a standard box on. See what it sounds like. As I already have a standard box and two standard middle sections I can chop up, think I'll weld a flange onto my straight through, just need the misses to go to work or be busy so I can get out there without her moaning lol
