Exhaust sizes. - Niall - 07-12-2011

Is there a difference in diameter between the gti6 exhaust and the 1.8?

Just wondering as I'm getting my new exhaust made next month and I think they will want to use the cup off the end of the cat but I think they are different sizes

Re: Exhaust sizes. - Scott - 07-12-2011

I'm tempted to say no, as from what I gather the exhaust is very similar on the XSi and GTi-6 and the 2.0 Cabby, it's just that the CAT is different between them. I'll have a look around and see if I can find something more concrete

No!! everyone knows 1.8's are lightweights in consumption of fluids can't get the gasses out quick enough and end up throwing all the fuel they have just drank back out the inlet, ha ha

I was actually roaring as I typed that

You certainly get a prize for most useful post Jonny! Haha

Re: Exhaust sizes. - Matt - 08-12-2011

the 2.0 xsi and gti exhaust are the same. as scott said its the cat which makes them different

Re: Exhaust sizes. - Matt - 08-12-2011

although not sure of the 1.8, if you were closer ive got a mid section in the back graden you could have had a look at

Re: Exhaust sizes. - Niall - 08-12-2011

I know the cats are different. Gti one is shorter I believe. I'm pretty sure the gti exhaust is 2.5" but I haven't got a bloody clue what the 1.8 is lol. Hopefully the same!

Re: Exhaust sizes. - Poodle - 08-12-2011

2.5" seems awfully big for a 2.0 na..?

Re: Exhaust sizes. - Fozzy - 08-12-2011

I test fitted a GTi aftermarket exhaust to a 1.8 from the cat back and it was too long. Hope that helps.

Edit: you're after diameter, whoops

Re: Exhaust sizes. - Niall - 08-12-2011

Haha yeah I know there a different length. The 1.8 manifold is utter shite and might as well just be 1 hole in the block lol.

I'm going to guess the diameter is the same because I Know the backboxes are all interchangeable and I highly doubt there is a step down/up in the pipe somewhere.

Re: Exhaust sizes. - Scott - 08-12-2011

Probably a safe bet mate, Peugeot would probably keep it the same to save money anyway lol

Held together by a random selection of TORX bolts? Big Grin

Re: Exhaust sizes. - Niall - 08-12-2011

Which are rusted to high heaven and shear when I open my toolbox? That sounds like my car!

Re: Exhaust sizes. - Matt - 09-12-2011

You could always go to pug, you might get lucky and get someone that's helpfull and know what there doing lol

Re: Exhaust sizes. - Niall - 09-12-2011

Or I could get some spotty stinky little twat who always insists he's right when I've proved him wrong many a time.

Re: Exhaust sizes. - Matt - 09-12-2011

Haha lol there is that

Re: Exhaust sizes. - mjcook1984 - 09-12-2011

im sure the gti is 2.25 inches. not sure on the 1.8 ive got a cut up center section in the garage il measure it tonight when i get home

Re: Exhaust sizes. - Matt - 09-12-2011

Was just thinking why don't we just measure our exhaust?

Re: Exhaust sizes. - Niall - 09-12-2011

Because I won't get time to get under there lol.
All I need to know is if the cup at the end of the cat where it meets the manifold is the same size on the 1.8 as it is the gti
Now that I think about it, it has to be because tom306xs had his converted no troubles!

Re: Exhaust sizes. - mjcook1984 - 09-12-2011

Right measured it, outside diameter is about 1.75 inch
