RE: Gov mod - sherman306 - 14-01-2014

2 say no one says yes who has actually done it?

Haha starting to belive zx then Smile

RE: Gov mod - Danny2009 - 14-01-2014

Tom knows what he is on about mate you can do it on the car no problem

RE: Gov mod - zx_volcane - 14-01-2014

Isn't there a guide somewhere?

You basically want to take the throttle plate off the top - 10mm nut holding it onto the spline.

Before you undo it scribe it inline with the spline on the top so its relative position is marked.

Whip it off and the spring and two round bits of spring locating plastic.

Then you want to undo the four hex bolts that hold the top hat onto the pump.

You may have to remove the two long stop screws to gain access.

Then you want to wind out the max fuel screw - again making note of how far it was wound in.

You should now be able to pop the top off, I find you have to hold the stop leaver on the front of the pump to one side for it to clear the gov cradle.

Now its time to do your gov mod - and in the famous words of haynes refitting is just the reversal of the above Smile

Probably a good idea to cover the top of the pump with a sparkingly clean rag to stop any crap getting in while you have the top off.

Also those hex bolts are only nipped up, don't wind them right in mega tight when putting back together.

A new top hat seal might be a god idea, they have a tendency to leak after.

RE: Gov mod - sherman306 - 14-01-2014

Ah good its not too hard to do is it z

RE: Gov mod - Craigus - 14-01-2014

Yeah you can, and its not too hard

RE: Gov mod - Frosty - 14-01-2014

I did mine on my car. Got a bit stressed out but I got there in the end. It was first time I had taken a pump apart

RE: Gov mod - darrenjlobb - 14-01-2014

Yeah no problem at all, if you have done it before takes under 5 minutes start to finish on the car Smile

RE: Gov mod - anto - 14-01-2014

If its your first time dong one, id have a good practise with a pump off the car first of all.
Then 2 points id make you aware of;

1) Make sure you dont lose the little cold idle spring
2) Snap off the part of the manual stop lever that is inside the pump as its a pain in the arse trying to refit the pump top with it still in place. It doesnt really serve much purpose anyway.

RE: Gov mod - Tom - 14-01-2014

Yeah i done mine on the car and lost the cold idle spring, pain in the ass!

RE: Gov mod - Danny2009 - 14-01-2014

hardest bit is shimming it, ruins your hands trying to compress it. really need to invest in a vice

RE: Gov mod - sherman306 - 14-01-2014

I have use of a full garage workshop and tools so should be alright

RE: Gov mod - mikey b - 14-01-2014

As above yes you can not to bad just take ya time when removing top and go steady

RE: Gov mod - Danny2009 - 14-01-2014

have a read through that mate will give you a idea how to gov mod it

RE: Gov mod - sherman306 - 14-01-2014

I've read the mod thread guide a few times so will just have to get on and do it

RE: Gov mod - Danny2009 - 14-01-2014

ahh be fine then Smile

RE: Gov mod - Tom - 14-01-2014

Hopefully you read the bit that said DONT FORCE ANYTHING << Theres no wiser words when it comes to fuel pumps, everything is delicate especially the governer cradle.

RE: Gov mod - sherman306 - 14-01-2014

Yeah that's what I'm worried about as I will.need it for work come Monday lol
