Cheap lowering springs - THE_Liam - 03-01-2014 Right, I wanna drop 40mm but I'm on a tight budget, has anyone used Apex, PI or AW Fahrwerke lowering springs? RE: Cheap lowering springs - Niall - 03-01-2014 Had Apex springs on my 106 and they were very good actually. Not too crashy but improved the handling a fair bit. RE: Cheap lowering springs - THE_Liam - 03-01-2014 Reckon I need uprated dampers? I really wanted to avoid it because most of the money I can justify spending is going on a new beam and rebuilding the dead front suspension... RE: Cheap lowering springs - Niall - 03-01-2014 If you can afford it, always go for dampers suitable for lowering springs but if not, don't worry. At 30-40mm drop, it's not going to make a huge noticeable difference. You will only start destroying shocks and bottoming them out every 5 seconds when you start fitting 60mm springs or go lower id say. RE: Cheap lowering springs - THE_Liam - 03-01-2014 Cool, that's part of the reason I wanted to only go 40mm so I could avoid that, don't mind upgrading dampers further down the line but only my rear dampers are bad and the new beam comes with decent ones. What about PI or AW Fahrwerke? RE: Cheap lowering springs - Piggy - 03-01-2014 Surely someone on here has some GTi dampers you can have cheap/beer tokens? Same with the lowering springs Shame coz 6mths ago there was a few set of gti struts with lowering springs that werent shifting for £30 RE: Cheap lowering springs - Niall - 03-01-2014 Lol I did have some gti dampers the other day you could of had for free but I cut one of them in half so probably no use to you unless your good with a welder ![]() RE: Cheap lowering springs - THE_Liam - 03-01-2014 I've been offered some Xsara VTS springs and 4x shocks for £60 delivered, apparently the springs will drop 20mm but that's not even worth bothering with, so I'd probably pair the 40mm springs with the shocks. Is that a worthwhile upgrade do we reckon? Their off a 75k car and apparently in good shape. RE: Cheap lowering springs - Piggy - 03-01-2014 Yeah seen those... They would work nice Put up a wantes ad...someone on here must have some nice spax -40s in the back of their shed! RE: Cheap lowering springs - THE_Liam - 03-01-2014 I've asked about them. Just trying to save a bit because with new lower arms, droplinks, beam, beam mounts, springs, dampers plus labour this won't be cheap. Cheaper than getting another and fitting all the bits I've already fitted though, it's already had new bumpers, rad, tyres, pump, exhaust... RE: Cheap lowering springs - Piggy - 03-01-2014 Put up a wanted ad for gti struts n dampers mate...I bet someone would want rid... I expect most peeps chuck em RE: Cheap lowering springs - Anton - 03-01-2014 Ive got some mate but not exactly close. Is that a worthwhile upgrade do we reckon? Their off a 75k car and apparently in good shape. The dampers have a 20mm lower spring seat on the damper, and the springs should give it another 15mm. Take a look at the last few pictures of my car, its running standard vts suspension all round, give you an idea how they sit. RE: Cheap lowering springs - THE_Liam - 03-01-2014 Actually that looks spot on! I'll have them! RE: Cheap lowering springs - lolsteve - 04-01-2014 I got PI springs on the zr, the drop is nice and even and it's a softer ride than the standard setup. handling wise I assume it's better but then ive never driven a before/after on a lowered car RE: Cheap lowering springs - ConorTRG - 05-01-2014 Whats your budget? RE: Cheap lowering springs - THE_Liam - 05-01-2014 Sorted now lads, bought that Xsara VTS setup ![]() RE: Cheap lowering springs - WiNgNuTz - 05-01-2014 Dude, I'd have offered you the spare springs I had knocking about, but they were 60mm, and I sold them a couple of weeks back. ![]() /pointlesspost Cheap lowering springs - ben dturbo - 13-01-2014 Got 40m lowering springs dono what they are but new never bin used Re: RE: Cheap lowering springs - kentiiboii - 13-01-2014 (13-01-2014, 10:40 AM)ben dturbo Wrote: Got 40m lowering springs dono what they are but new never bin used How much? What did they come off? RE: Cheap lowering springs - si_batt - 13-01-2014 The xsara vets setup sounds like it'll do the job nicely. I'm not sure what the front spring rates were on the xsara relative to the 306 but if you have a vernier caliper and measure the spring wire diameter it can be calculated. I know the rear springs were stiffer on the xsara, 21mm diameter as opposed to 20mm Cheap lowering springs - ben dturbo - 14-01-2014 Was for a 306 dturbo but never got put on Re: RE: Cheap lowering springs - kentiiboii - 14-01-2014 (14-01-2014, 07:25 PM)ben dturbo Wrote: Was for a 306 dturbo but never got put on How much would you like for them posted?
