Hdi injector removal..... - Jimbo - 12-11-2013

Right so my injectors are noisy not surprising they had done 182k
So I bought some 40k ones off jonny on here.
Now I have.managed to fit three of them no problem, with new seals etc.
It has quietened down alot with thw three fitted

Now the 4th (gearbox end) is stuck in the head. So far I have tried

Soaking in penetrating oil
Getting engine hot
Running the engine with the clamp off
Pry bar underneath

Now im still soaking it but.slowly running out of ideas
Any help apreciated

Cheers james

Slide hammer to top of injector

Does that involve dismantling the injector?
Where you connect.slide hammer?

RE: Hdi injector removal..... - mcglynn - 12-11-2013

Yeah dont think a slide hammer would work without dissassembling a hdi injector as the fuel union isnt central/doesnt point upwards

RE: Hdi injector removal..... - Jimbo - 12-11-2013

Yeah I cant see how without taking it apart...

RE: Hdi injector removal..... - cully - 12-11-2013

soak it in plus gas and run the car with a loose clamp it will eventualy blow out

I did try this quickly, might.drive it back from work with.it loose should get the fucker out

RE: Hdi injector removal..... - mcglynn - 12-11-2013

May sound silly but I take it you have tried them for rotary movement? I wiggle mine side to side and usually have to lift the clamp while lifting the injector or it gets stuck.

May be something to remember if using a pry bar

RE: Hdi injector removal..... - Jimbo - 12-11-2013

Sorry shud have mentioned I cant get any side to side movement either. It really is siezed

RE: Hdi injector removal..... - mcglynn - 12-11-2013

I woukd try for the side to side with a big spanner on the top before doing anything else.

If your using your pry bar id make sure the clamp is lifted a little or it gets caught on the stud.

Even better, double nut method to get the stud out and then work on the injector

RE: Hdi injector removal..... - Toms306 - 12-11-2013

I was being serious with a hammer!

They're not as delicate as you think lol, look at the abuse the engine gives them on a daily basis! I've always given them a tap round if they're stuck.

The best way is a slide hammer/puller in the groove where the clamp usually goes, that's how they'll be removed at the dealers, orat least that's how VW ones are removed at the dealers lol.

RE: Hdi injector removal..... - darrenjlobb - 13-11-2013

I just made a tool to slide hammer them, but normally spinning / levering them steady and carefully will get them out...the 8v ones dont tent to get that stuck...

RE: Hdi injector removal..... - Jimbo - 13-11-2013

Ok darren tbh I havent gone that hard at it yet, dont want it breaking because its not essential to atm because its running ok. But wen I next have a go ill try a bit harder.

Might make a tool for slide hammer as I have spare injectors to mock it up on
Cheers

RE: Hdi injector removal..... - Ruan - 13-11-2013

Just get a big ass spanner around the casting where the inlet union is and give it a twist side to side - it'll go then...

The 8v ones are relatively easy as you can give them side to side action.

RE: Hdi injector removal..... - mr_fish - 13-11-2013

are you sure you don't need a dose of MTFU?

serious note though...tap it side to side and get a bit of sideways movement on it. Had vehicles of the agricultural variety before with the same issue.

Ideal ill whattsapp u Wink

RE: Hdi injector removal..... - Poodle - 19-11-2013

If it's turning it's most of the way there, maybe try running the engine with the clamp off again.

Yeah could try that trouble being will the hard injector pipe allow it to come up much??
