Well, I've just visited my local Halfords branch to purchase the usual 127-piece toolkit (in the aluminium case), only to discover they no longer sell it!

It was supposed to be a Christmas present for my brother who has just moved out to his own place and this would have included all of the tools required as a "starter kit".
So, any ideas as to what I can now get, similar range of tools, max of £50 budget and preferably a similar quality? Halfords have replaced all their budget stuff with Phaze?!? and the Pro tools don't include some of the less car related items (although I always seem to find a use for a hammer...). My other idea would be to get a smaller range of tools and a kit bag to put them in instead?

they had the 120piece for sale, £99, pretty good value considering the only extra tools in 170 piece arn't of that much use iirc.

Cheers itone, but I'm looking for something with screwdrivers/hammer etc, more a general toolset rather than a socket set if that makes sense? Little brothers got no tools at all so that's why I thought the 127piece kit would be good as it contains plenty of average quality tools that will handle almost every job he's likely to come across around the house/car.

This , I know the extension bars are chocolate 1/2 lasted a week! i wouldnt want a spanner or socket of theirs then needs to retain its size/shape

Costco might be worth a look, they have some good tool sets in stock.
Most stuff from there comes with a massive warranty so it shouldn't be a problem taking anything back.

Still doesn't have a BASTARD proper 16mm deep socket (Yes I know the spark plug socket is deep...)
And I guarantee it doesn't have all the spanners.
If you're going to make a toolset, I'd rather have LESS tools but all the sizes in that series. Nothing fucks me off more than going to the tool set and finding that there's a set of tools, but the one you actually need is f*cking missing.

Yeah, but they don't fit in the bastard kit!!!
I want to be able to have the entire kit in my back seat and know that all the tools I'll probably need are in that box. I.E. I've got every socket from 8-24mm in deep and shallow and I've got every spanner from 8-21mm say..
Not go there and find that I've got 4 missing spanners and a few missing deep sockets and 4 bloody impact sockets... The irritating thing is that you cannot buy a kit that's got less in, but got all the correct sockets.

Lidl and Aldi tools are good for anything that requires a good amount of hammering.
Like smashing a 12mm socket over a 13mm bolt thats rounded off
