3" Custom Downpipe - what did you buy, advice and critique required! - silverzx - 02-11-2013 Want to get the 205 moving along, need to make a downpipe for the GT2052V, what have people used? Stainless or ordinary steel? Obviously it'll be 3" 90 degree so heres a few I've found on eBay from a quick search: Bend 1: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/180726818044 Bend 2: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/111084566646 Search results: http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_sacat=0&_nkw=90+mandrel+bend+3%22&_sop=15 It'll then need some flexi pipe right so have people gone for 3" again straight after the bend then reduced down to 2.5" straight after the flexi? is this flexi long enough or will I likely need a longer one with more "flex"? 3" Flexi x4": http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/121118351209 3" Flexi x6": http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/181240997947 Then I'll need some straight pipe and various bends but I can just get that fabricated at a garage or buy the appropriate bends off eBay / whatever once I have the downpipe all sorted. RE: 3" Custom Downpipe - what did you buy, advice and critique required! - padge - 02-11-2013 im running a 3" downpipe, but my turbo is relocated so kinda have more room, ill be ordering one of those flexys today, as im going full 3" system, probs get the 4" one lol. RE: 3" Custom Downpipe - what did you buy, advice and critique required! - Ricky - 02-11-2013 I think I went 3" mandrel bend, cut as short as possible so it didn't hit the gear linkages, then a reducer to a 2.5" short flexi, to another cone reducer to 2.25" to attach to the leftover standard downpipe. Mmm, not helpful! You went from the 3" bend straight to a short reducer then to flexi? Surely your better off having 3" for a slightly longer period or does it literally just matter for that inital 90* bend to help with the initial flow? RE: 3" Custom Downpipe - what did you buy, advice and critique required! - zx_volcane - 02-11-2013 2.5 will be fine Running 2.5 turbo back on the gt22v which has been good for 200+ 3 inch is just more likely to foul things RE: 3" Custom Downpipe - what did you buy, advice and critique required! - Ricky - 02-11-2013 I was worried about space tbh. I always thought 3" was the ideal size, but it's just from reading with no actual evidence..! (02-11-2013, 02:36 PM)Ricky Wrote: I was worried about space tbh. It's going on my 205 so I should be worried about space too! RE: 3" Custom Downpipe - what did you buy, advice and critique required! - padge - 02-11-2013 my 3" downpipe clears linkages RE: 3" Custom Downpipe - what did you buy, advice and critique required! - Ricky - 02-11-2013 I thought the 205 actually had more space behind the engine? RE: 3" Custom Downpipe - what did you buy, advice and critique required! - 306Puggy - 02-11-2013 FFS I've already make a thread about this! I am going for a 3" elbow into a reducer to 2.25 inches, it should be sufficient, it's not worth scrapping the rest of your 2.25 inch system for any performance gain you might have from a 2.5 inch system. Fairly certain the 205's exhaust goes as small as 1.75"-2" at points.. RE: 3" Custom Downpipe - what did you buy, advice and critique required! - padge - 02-11-2013 standard xud pipe is 2" im sure? RE: 3" Custom Downpipe - what did you buy, advice and critique required! - silverzx - 02-11-2013 (02-11-2013, 03:36 PM)padge Wrote: standard xud pipe is 2" im sure? I'm fairly certain its a 1.8D exhaust but then it wouldn't fit so might be a 1.8DT exhaust.. RE: 3" Custom Downpipe - what did you buy, advice and critique required! - 306Puggy - 02-11-2013 I hope it's 2.25. RE: 3" Custom Downpipe - what did you buy, advice and critique required! - Tom - 02-11-2013 I need to do something with my exhaust :/ This is what i used for my 2.5" downpipe! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Jetex-Universal-Exhaust-90-Degree-Welding-Bend-3-Mild-Steel-/290614647507?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item43a9fb9ad3 3" Custom Downpipe - what did you buy, advice and critique required! - silverzx - 03-11-2013 (02-11-2013, 07:06 PM)Tom Wrote: I need to do something with my exhaust :/ Did you then weld a bit of straight pipe then flexi after that 90!? RE: 3" Custom Downpipe - what did you buy, advice and critique required! - Piggy - 03-11-2013 that tight bend is exactly what you need... then a little bit of straight, then a 4" flexi. then a 60degree bend I believe...or maybe its 45...have to check then I would drop to 2.5" as it makes the rest much cheaper RE: 3" Custom Downpipe - what did you buy, advice and critique required! - Paul_13 - 03-11-2013 There is more room in a 205 bay! you're right about the exhaust mate. Mines 2" and narrows right down before each box RE: 3" Custom Downpipe - what did you buy, advice and critique required! - Diggers - 03-11-2013 3" downpipe you can see how close it is the the linkages. RE: 3" Custom Downpipe - what did you buy, advice and critique required! - Dum-Dum - 03-11-2013 Mine isnt welded or fitted yet but it'll be a 3" v-band clamp into this RE: 3" Custom Downpipe - what did you buy, advice and critique required! - Tom - 03-11-2013 (03-11-2013, 01:40 AM)silverzx Wrote:(02-11-2013, 07:06 PM)Tom Wrote: I need to do something with my exhaust :/ Yeah i welded a reducer onto that because i had a 2.25" system at the time! I THINK you might be able to get away with welding whatever angle you need at the bottom straight onto the flexi as long as it had some material each end of the bend if that make sense? So a bend like this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/63mm-2-5-OD-45-Degree-Stainless-Steel-Exhaust-Polished-Pipe-Tube-Bend-/170871667469?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item27c8bebb0d As opposed to a short on like this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/63mm-2-5-OD-45-Degree-Stainless-Steel-Tube-Pipe-Mandrel-Bend-Hose-T304-/170699412690?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item27be7a54d2 RE: 3" Custom Downpipe - what did you buy, advice and critique required! - darrenjlobb - 03-11-2013 (02-11-2013, 01:43 PM)padge Wrote: im running a 3" downpipe, but my turbo is relocated so kinda have more room, ill be ordering one of those flexys today, as im going full 3" system, probs get the 4" one lol. Probs less room for downpipe with relocated turbo if im honest...And how is this relivant? Other advice would be as said, use a mandrel short bent not long ones like in your links, as you will find they take up to much room / take you to far to one side out of the tunnel...And dont run the super short flexis, there so regid you may as well not bother, having a good flexi makes life SO much easier fitting exhaust etc, so well worth it. RE: 3" Custom Downpipe - what did you buy, advice and critique required! - Tom - 03-11-2013 I just found some cheap ass pipe too! Mill autos on trade, my local can get me 2meters of 2.5" for 8/9quid! RE: 3" Custom Downpipe - what did you buy, advice and critique required! - padge - 03-11-2013 kinda relevant as I said id be using a 4" flexy, as he asked which one would be best, just some input. RE: 3" Custom Downpipe - what did you buy, advice and critique required! - silverzx - 04-11-2013 Going to get these: 3" 90 bend: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/290614647507 3" x 8" flexi: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251207174096 Now I just need to know if its a 45 or 60 degree 3" bend I need before I go into a 3" > 2.5" reducer then 2.5" the rest of the way. RE: 3" Custom Downpipe - what did you buy, advice and critique required! - Paul_13 - 05-11-2013 That bend looks a bit Yeeehaaaa RE: 3" Custom Downpipe - what did you buy, advice and critique required! - silverzx - 05-11-2013 (05-11-2013, 06:57 AM)Paul_13 Wrote: That bend looks a bit Yeeehaaaa Yeah, it's a bit small/tight/pikey but it seems to be the one to go for!!
