swapping gti6 engine - BenDturbo1 - 14-10-2013 Just want to know if the gti6 engine and gearbox will fit in a mg zr? As might be selling engine to cousin for his track car ![]() RE: swapping gti6 engine - Midnightclub - 14-10-2013 Anything would with enough time and money.. but it's not a straight fit.. RE: swapping gti6 engine - Grant - 14-10-2013 You would need new engine mounting points welding in, either adapting the chassis to fit a 306 subframe, or adjusting the existing drivetrain to fit the '6 lump. Not an easy task however you look at it RE: swapping gti6 engine - BenDturbo1 - 14-10-2013 Ok thanks guys! ![]() Re: swapping gti6 engine - aggyj17 - 14-10-2013 The driveshafts will need modifying, also on the mg the exhaust manifold is at the front of the engine so on a 6 engine you will probably have to cut a tunnel in the bulkhead to run the exhaust down the back RE: swapping gti6 engine - Grant - 14-10-2013 Or get really clever, take the gearbox apart, reverse the internals and mount the engine 180 degrees around. Failing that, retrofit the MG Box to the '6 engine. I have no idea what the engine bay of the MG looks like so I'm firing in the dark here! lol RE: swapping gti6 engine - Tom - 14-10-2013 Way more work than it would be worth imo. Surely some kind of turbo'd rover lump would be alot easier?! RE: swapping gti6 engine - Grant - 14-10-2013 Rover Turbo V8 did I hear?! RE: swapping gti6 engine - Tom - 14-10-2013 V8 twin turbo anyone! RE: swapping gti6 engine - Ruan - 14-10-2013 Remember that the MG ZR was designed for a super light ally block 1.8 weighing sub 100kg... A GTi6 is a iron block 2.0, canted back with hefty 6 speed gearbox. TBF in terms of engine designs, you couldn't really get much different! The only real similarities are that the're both 4 cylinder 16vs.... RE: swapping gti6 engine - BenDturbo1 - 14-10-2013 Cheers everyone, loads of help! Think he's looking at 2.5 v6 engine now ![]() *2.5 v6 zs engine RE: swapping gti6 engine - Grant - 14-10-2013 Why? Just slap a rover v8 in it. I would have thought it would be an easier job? RE: swapping gti6 engine - BenDturbo1 - 14-10-2013 Or either that yes! Ill have a word with him tomorrow and see what he thinks to it, most likely he will want that! Haha :p RE: swapping gti6 engine - Tom - 14-10-2013 V8 would be win. Friend of mine just put one in an old rx7! RE: swapping gti6 engine - adamm306 - 14-10-2013 it's still a rover though ![]() RE: swapping gti6 engine - procta - 16-10-2013 id just leave the vvc running gear in the posh 25 RE: swapping gti6 engine - PUGNUT_XS - 17-10-2013 I would stay well away from the V6 K6 lump, it suffers like all other K series S**T with the god ol headgasket. Maybe think about the Rover 2.0 Turbo engine that was fitted to the 200 Tomcat, there are a few on EBay RE: swapping gti6 engine - procta - 17-10-2013 v6 k6 lump is very expensive to fix let alone do a belt on one! better off as mentioned T series the car or leave it be, as rover modifing is a bit of a f*ck on, trust me on that one.
