Dashboard woes; fuel & Temp gone - ginge191 - 27-09-2013 Just wondering if anyone would have any ideas with this; literally after the MOT on the "6" was complete, the garage drove the car back and said as they drove it back, they noticed the fuel gauge had dropped as well as the temperature gauge. I've taken out the dash to ensure the yellow and blue dashboard plugs are all in, they're fine and clip down nicely. I've checked through fuses relating to instrument panels etc, they're also all fine I've taken out the dash to gaze over the small amount of resistors/circuits for burning of any kind, and again, all seems clean.. Just to add, the only addition to the dash board is a soldered wire from airbag light - ABS light. Both solders on their own circuits, neither touching or interfering with any other circuit Anyone have any other ideas as to what could be the issue or anything else to check over? Would it benefit trying another set of clocks? x RE: Dashboard woes; fuel & Temp gone - Piggy - 27-09-2013 what clocks are you using in the xud6? RE: Dashboard woes; fuel & Temp gone - ginge191 - 27-09-2013 GTI clocks mate RE: Dashboard woes; fuel & Temp gone - Piggy - 28-09-2013 I'd try xud clocks to begin with. and checks the earths while you at it RE: Dashboard woes; fuel & Temp gone - MissTap_GTI6 - 28-09-2013 It's just odd that they were working (temp & fuel), and now are not! The odometer is on but not counting miles as the speedo cable isn't connected. Plus the oil gauge thing flicks about when you turn the car on. ^^ technoknowlege there RE: Dashboard woes; fuel & Temp gone - strictly_perv - 28-09-2013 How was the ABS light solved? Could be linked some how RE: Dashboard woes; fuel & Temp gone - MissTap_GTI6 - 28-09-2013 The soldered a wired from abs light to air bag RE: Dashboard woes; fuel & Temp gone - strictly_perv - 28-09-2013 So it worked when you dropped it off at the garage and when they dropped it back it doesen't? RE: Dashboard woes; fuel & Temp gone - MissTap_GTI6 - 28-09-2013 Indeed. But the mechanic called me 'before he started work on it' (I believe) and asked me if the dash was working before.... Because it wasn't when he got it RE: Dashboard woes; fuel & Temp gone - adamm306 - 28-09-2013 tbf it would be easier to just get a set of XUD clocks.. RE: Dashboard woes; fuel & Temp gone - 4WayDiablo - 28-09-2013 Did you use a heatsync when soldering the wire? You may heave fried something RE: Dashboard woes; fuel & Temp gone - ginge191 - 28-09-2013 (28-09-2013, 10:31 AM)adamm306 Wrote: tbf it would be easier to just get a set of XUD clocks.. It's regardless which clocks we used as the GTI clocks and XUD clocks are pretty much identicle. The bulb/wiring for the glowplug is all there, it's just not used. It's the clocks which did, now don't work which is the issue. (28-09-2013, 11:45 AM)4WayDiablo Wrote: Did you use a heatsync when soldering the wire? You may heave fried something a heatsync? I only know this term in relation to computer processor coolers??? RE: Dashboard woes; fuel & Temp gone - adamm306 - 28-09-2013 you may of fried something when soldering. hense why i suggested just getting a set of XUD clocks to see if the problem persists RE: Dashboard woes; fuel & Temp gone - MissTap_GTI6 - 28-09-2013 We are on the way to the scrappy to try and get clocks. Like we've said, the garage did the soldering so we have no idea what went on sadly. RE: Dashboard woes; fuel & Temp gone - adamm306 - 28-09-2013 hope it all gets sorted for you. you guys coming along to the b&q meet tomorrow evening? RE: Dashboard woes; fuel & Temp gone - adamm306 - 28-09-2013 coolio would be cool to meet you both properly RE: Dashboard woes; fuel & Temp gone - 4WayDiablo - 28-09-2013 When soldering you need something to take the heat away from the components Place it between the component and where you are Soldering The clamp/scissor thing in this is a heat sink. As you can guess it takes the heat away from damaging things you dont want to damage :-) ![]() RE: Dashboard woes; fuel & Temp gone - MissTap_GTI6 - 28-09-2013 New dash; problemo solvode RE: Dashboard woes; fuel & Temp gone - Piggy - 28-09-2013 ![]() ![]() ![]() wont say I said first! oh wait...just did ![]() RE: Dashboard woes; fuel & Temp gone - ginge191 - 01-10-2013 (28-09-2013, 06:06 PM)Piggy Wrote: We used another set of XU clocks, not XUD clocks.. and TECHNICALLY i told eli this when i saw the dials were dead ![]() RE: Dashboard woes; fuel & Temp gone - MissTap_GTI6 - 01-10-2013 Well aren't you boys clever chaps! RE: Dashboard woes; fuel & Temp gone - ginge191 - 01-10-2013 Nope; what's the need for a rev gauge? with a trained ear, i feel a rev gauge is as useful as a boost gauge. As Dave once said to me, whats the need for a boost gauge; if itss fast enough, touch nothing, if its not, more fuel/air. ![]() RE: Dashboard woes; fuel & Temp gone - Piggy - 01-10-2013 yeah, but a girl will be driving it, and she is used to a GTI red line ![]() ![]() RE: Dashboard woes; fuel & Temp gone - MissTap_GTI6 - 01-10-2013 (01-10-2013, 12:00 PM)Piggy Wrote: yeah, but a girl will be driving it, and she is used to a GTI red line What can I say... I've a trained ear. RE: Dashboard woes; fuel & Temp gone - Piggy - 01-10-2013 If I listened to my ear with my 2.1, I would change gear at 2500rpm on full chat...thing is mental loud! ![]() RE: Dashboard woes; fuel & Temp gone - MissTap_GTI6 - 01-10-2013 Lucky I've got a standard XUD that runs out of puff when the gear needs to be changed! Not that I leave it that long to change gear, of course... |
