I would say its worth spending the little extra and get a Bosch 1. Get 1 with a 3/4 year grantee. Pop in to Dorset auto spares and see what they can do for you

Is it a case of bigger is better?

Opinions on this?

RE: Battery and cables - Tom - 07-09-2013

Looks good to me, mines 600cca if i remember but i guess the derv takes more turning over.

RE: Battery and cables - swampy - 07-09-2013

The petrol battery box is the same size as the derv one, I always where possible fit the derv equivalent as it has better cranking power and isn't usually much more expensive.

As for the cables I would suggest looking out to see if you can get a decent condition genuine set.

If you do want to make them yourself you need at least 135amp cable

Re: Battery and cables - rocker8742 - 11-09-2013

Well 540cca and 60ah is a jump up from the 360 and 45ah one that's in there at the minute

Would this cable be alright? Anyone know how much ill need and where i need to run the positive to apart from the altenator ?

Same with the earth where do i need to take them to gearbox chassis and...?

RE: Battery and cables - cully - 11-09-2013

I've got a crimp tool for the lugs up to 70mm cable

Battery and cables - rocker8742 - 11-09-2013

Where's best to get the lugs and terminals mate? Seems to be far too many to pick on eBay

RE: Battery and cables - cully - 11-09-2013

exeter battery centre
or any electrical wholesaler

Will have words with the local tomorrow then cheers mate

Will a meter be enough cable?

RE: Battery and cables - cully - 11-09-2013

get a tape and measure it
alt>starter>batt for the +
Bat>chassis>gearbox for the -
then allow for terminatons and routing im guessing 1mtr will be short

Cheers for the info matey

RE: Battery and cables - Piggy - 11-09-2013

Dont crimp.

Worst thing for electrical faults in future.

get the ends soldered on proper job. Most places that sell the wire will do it for you I expect if you havnt got the kit yaself.

I was probably going to cover it in solder too mate lol can't hurt
