Do any of you lovely people know if the cambelt is the same length from 1.8 - GTi - XSI?

Muchos Gracias

RE: Camblet Length - Niall - 23-08-2013

No it's not. It is from the gti to xsi though.

RE: Camblet Length - Grant - 23-08-2013

And the one you gave me was gti yes?

RE: Camblet Length - Niall - 23-08-2013

I thought there was 2 types for the GTi though? 167 and 168 tooth or something along those lines?

RE: Camblet Length - Matt - 23-08-2013

There is two types, depends on what rollers are made of, plastic or metal

It really comes down to that?

RE: Camblet Length - Matt - 23-08-2013

Yep. I asked Niall about it before. I couldn't make any sense of it

RE: Camblet Length - Niall - 23-08-2013

I think it's the plastic one which the idler has a slightly bigger diameter hence the need for a longer belt

RE: Camblet Length - Grant - 23-08-2013

Feck it, Ill buy a kit in a month or so lol. Not worth ruining the engine...

RE: Camblet Length - Matt - 23-08-2013

Check the one that's on there, should say on the belt if its 136 tooth

RE: Camblet Length - luke306rallye - 24-08-2013

The 136 kit is the better type.

RE: Camblet Length - bitwrx - 17-09-2013

136 tooth for the smaller metal only manually set tensioner.
137 for the larger plastic/metal auto-tensioner.

A lot of people say 136 is the better option because it's metal.
I went for the 137 as it has an auto tensionerit. Just bang an allen key in, turn it round till the marks align, and tighten up (still not easy with the amount of space available though!).

I think the 137 was fitted to later vehicles. Not sure when the changeover was though.

RE: Camblet Length - miles - 17-09-2013

137 was generally fitted to Xsara's from around 2000 or Phase 2, 306's unless very late only had the 136 type, Even the 136 belts come with plastic idler's now unless you find some old stock
