Possible Head gasket? - rocker8742 - 04-08-2013

Just had the 6 hit 90* sat in traffic put the heaters on and its blowing hot for a few seconds then getting cooler but the temp isn't dropping far on the gauge?

Also as in my other topic has been missing a tiny bit on startup after its been sat overnight which clears with a rev

Tell me that im wrong please ? Lol

Sounds like you need to bleed the coolant. Sounds like a airlock to me!

Yeah I had this, thought it was headgasket, turned out it was just an airlock, had me worried for a day or two though!

Waited for it to cool down a bit popped the rad cap off plenty of water and not lost any put it back on and in the same scenario its staying hot

So hopefully all good

Have you re-bled it since Europe ? You have a phase 1 rad and you need to make a header tank which we didnt do in Europe

You'll have a lot of pressure in the header tank if it's HG

Say what only just seen this,,

How can you tell the difference thought the rads were the same throughout

And when you say make a header do you mean the coke bottle trick?

RE: Possible Head gasket? - Piggy - 07-09-2013

the phase1 rad has its header tank built in.
no need to double up.

RE: Possible Head gasket? - martyn92 - 07-09-2013

Yeah down the side of the rad but it's lower than than all the bleed points, 99% sure you need to. Every time I have used a coke bottle and seen massive amounts of air being released

90 degrees is normal in heavy traffic. They go to 97 degrees before the slow fans kick in and at 106 degrees the high speed fans kick in.
But it does sound like an airlock to me

When mine went, the coolant turned into choco milkshake.
