Drive shaft/Diff - puglove - 31-07-2013

Right so some of you know iv changed my clutch and then couldn't get my shafts back in the box due to excessive play,

so iv got another box and got the short shaft in but cant get the long shaft in, wtf is going on?? surly that's not 2 nackered boxes?

RE: Drive shaft/Diff - Dum-Dum - 31-07-2013

Try twisting and wiggling the shaft mate

RE: Drive shaft/Diff - Jonny81191 - 31-07-2013

Check the retaining bolts in the intermediate bearing aren't in the way.

RE: Drive shaft/Diff - C2K - 31-07-2013

You may have the splines aligned, rather than offset - in other words tooth to tooth.

Rotate the shaft a little and try again. As above, make sure the intermediate bearing bolts aren't in the way, and you may be able to use them to pull the shaft home, but don't go nuts as they're only small things.

RE: Drive shaft/Diff - Toms306 - 31-07-2013

Nothing wrong with my 'box Jamie, it's definitely a problem with your shaft. Tongue

RE: Drive shaft/Diff - puglove - 31-07-2013

The bearing is still 3" away from the housing so the bolts arnt even coming into play at the this point,

And iv spent a fair bit of time spinning and wiggling lol still nothing

RE: Drive shaft/Diff - Piggy - 31-07-2013

try taking the speedo drive out

RE: Drive shaft/Diff - Jonny81191 - 31-07-2013

3"? Erm, put the shaft actually in the hole?

Where's Mrs Puglove, sure she can help with the whole "shaft location" shenanigans.. lol

Seriously though, get a helper to push while you align it?

RE: Drive shaft/Diff - kingy - 31-07-2013

try pulling the shaft backwards and forwards untill it lubercates its self.

works for me anyway.

RE: Drive shaft/Diff - puglove - 31-07-2013

literally it gets through the speedo drive and stops,

has anyone ever took a speedo drive off ?? just wondering if this is anything to do with it

RE: Drive shaft/Diff - Poodle - 31-07-2013

Rubbing the dry shaft can leave some nasty burns, personally i'd slather it with ky first.

RE: Drive shaft/Diff - Dum-Dum - 31-07-2013

Bit of box oil on your shaft might help

RE: Drive shaft/Diff - Jonny81191 - 31-07-2013

Pull the other shaft out and try again?

RE: Drive shaft/Diff - puglove - 31-07-2013

I was trying to do the long one 1st then put the short shaft in as I was getting pissed off then went back to the long shaft so makes no odds if its on or off

RE: Drive shaft/Diff - C2K - 31-07-2013

Wtf, 3 inches be miles away, you must be fouling on something obvious.

RE: Drive shaft/Diff - puglove - 02-08-2013

its in!!!!! i took the sump plug out in the end stuck a screw driver in there and gave the teeth a bit of a wigge whilts pushing the shaft in (gigity) and it slotted straight in.. Thank f*ck for that!
