206 steering wheel into 306 - Piggy - 25-07-2013 whats all this about a 206 steering wheel fitting a 306?? my arse does it fit!!! the splines may line up....but the column cowling complete stops the wheel from getting even close to the splines! ![]() RE: 206 steering wheel into 306 - tigerstyle - 25-07-2013 pics? RE: 206 steering wheel into 306 - Mattcheese31 - 25-07-2013 trim the cowling then? . .not exactly hard . . ![]() Re: 206 steering wheel into 306 - reckord - 25-07-2013 ![]() Mine seems all good lol But yh removing the cowling is an obvious RE: 206 steering wheel into 306 - Niall - 25-07-2013 Did you just have to cut the hole in the cowling bigger? I tried this in a car at the breakers as the 206 wheel is much nicer but it wasn't direct fit so I couldnt be bothered to buy it lol RE: 206 steering wheel into 306 - Piggy - 25-07-2013 it needs to sit back another 2inches so some serious hacking about to happen! RE: 206 steering wheel into 306 - Piggy - 25-07-2013 heres the issues: ![]() ![]() ![]() RE: 206 steering wheel into 306 - Matt - 25-07-2013 Cut cut cut! Air bag wires the same? ![]() RE: 206 steering wheel into 306 - Piggy - 25-07-2013 Nope, but theres a thread somewhere explaining what to do, as the 206 one needs two plugs and the 306 loom has one. the plug fits, but I think you bridge it or summit RE: 206 steering wheel into 306 - Grant - 25-07-2013 Wasnt the 206 airbag system completely different to the 306 one though, rendering it a bastard to wire in? RE: 206 steering wheel into 306 - Matt - 25-07-2013 205 gti wheel. /thread RE: 206 steering wheel into 306 - Piggy - 25-07-2013 but it looks ancient in a late 306 RE: 206 steering wheel into 306 - Niall - 25-07-2013 (25-07-2013, 05:59 PM)Grant Wrote: Wasnt the 206 airbag system completely different to the 306 one though, rendering it a bastard to wire in? To put it basically, there is two airbags in the steering wheel. One slower detonating than the other. It will set one off if its a low speed crash. If its a big one, set off both so bridge the two cables and it should be fine. Oh just to add, its only one bag but two detonators. RE: 206 steering wheel into 306 - Stephen - 25-07-2013 205 wheel ftw ![]() RE: 206 steering wheel into 306 - Piggy - 26-07-2013 (25-07-2013, 09:44 PM)Niall Wrote:(25-07-2013, 05:59 PM)Grant Wrote: Wasnt the 206 airbag system completely different to the 306 one though, rendering it a bastard to wire in? thanks niall (25-07-2013, 10:17 PM)Stephen Wrote: 205 wheel ftw as already mentioned, looks good in a phase1....but antique in a phase3 Re: 206 steering wheel into 306 - reckord - 26-07-2013 Yes piggy some serious deburring was involved got there in the end . Just sacrificed the cowling completely so my car looks abit stolen from the best of angles to some lol. As for the airbag connections they deffo need modifying which i havnt done . RE: 206 steering wheel into 306 - Piggy - 26-07-2013 surely the stalks are now only like a cm away from the wheel?! Re: 206 steering wheel into 306 - reckord - 26-07-2013 If i remember when i first had the wheel on it almost felt better to use the stalks when driving without hand of the wheel as they were closer but nothing ridiculous RE: 206 steering wheel into 306 - Piggy - 29-07-2013 so took the cowlings off just to see if it was going to feel ok, reach etc, as I like to have my legs almost straight but arms bent..... and: ![]() do those luggs need cutting off too then?? I love the look of it, but I am wavering about fitting it now. I have a aftermarket wheel boss but cant find anything that dont look too tacky ![]() Re: 206 steering wheel into 306 - reckord - 29-07-2013 Unfortunately they gotta go aswell ![]() RE: 206 steering wheel into 306 - C.A.R. - 02-03-2014 Did you ever finish fitting this dude? RE: 206 steering wheel into 306 - Piggy - 03-03-2014 Nah....went for a aftermarket wheel RE: 206 steering wheel into 306 - Mattcheese31 - 03-03-2014 Piggy couldn't cut it lol RE: 206 steering wheel into 306 - Niall - 03-03-2014 I was going to just get my wheel retrimmed and shaped but after driving the missus 206 the other day, i do think the 206 gti wheel is perfect so i might buy one and finally get it fitted! Just worried about the airbags RE: 206 steering wheel into 306 - C.A.R. - 03-03-2014 Niall please be guinea pig! I think they look great too. Only if i can put it in your car connected to the airbag circuit for the first time? lol RE: 206 steering wheel into 306 - Piggy - 03-03-2014 Haha... It was the reach that bugged me, even if I had chopped at the cowling, would be driving round with either me arms in a good positiom but knees round me head or legs in perfect position and arms stretched out straight! And knuckles catching the stalks RE: 206 steering wheel into 306 - Niall - 03-03-2014 (03-03-2014, 11:30 PM)Piggy Wrote: Haha... Hmm true i suffer from that standard anyway hence why I'm going to look at extending the steering column by about 25mm RE: 206 steering wheel into 306 - Piggy - 03-03-2014 Yeah would need about that, if not more. If you could find a shaft adapter (!) of some sort you be sorted. They do feel nice and much newer RE: 206 steering wheel into 306 - RetroPug - 04-03-2014 (03-03-2014, 10:37 PM)Niall Wrote:(03-03-2014, 10:34 PM)C.A.R. Wrote: Niall please be guinea pig! I think they look great too. I get a little nervous that the circuit will be upset by moving the seat around with the poor connectors let alone after chopping and changing it! |
