Compbrake Eccentric Topmounts - Ed Doe - 14-02-2012 Cleaned this up as it was getting cluttered: Back by popular demand from Grant at Ace last night ![]() Original Post: Been on the phone to Compbrake about their eccentric topmounts, and they're very receptive to sorting us out with a good price for a groupbuy. For those who don't know what these are; http://www.compbrake.co.uk/Parts-by-Car-Manufacturer/Peugeot/306/PEUGEOT-306-ADJ-TOP-MOUNTS-PAIR-/prod_398.html They essentially permit slight 'tilting' of the struts, so you can set the car up with a bit of camber, or a bit of caster. If you know what you're doing, setting the car up with camber can improve the front-end grip when cornering hard, because the car will 'roll ONTO the tread of the tyre as the weight shifts in the corner. I personally will be setting mine for maximum castor.... I cba to explain this, particuarly as the following link will explain it better than I ever will...! http://www.ozebiz.com.au/racetech/theory/align.html Tofit these, you do need to drill one new hole to secure these to the chassis; its pretty basic stuff, took me about 10mins to have these bolted in!! As far as I am aware, you can only run these with coilovers... I've already got a pair on the '6 and they make a hell of a difference to the grip. Couldn't go back now. I've only had them on a few hundred (hard) miles so cannot comment on longevity at this stage, but will be happy to keep everyone up to date! To answer some questions that came up on the original thread; 1. These are £153 including VAT & delivery from Compbrake if buying individually (£7.80 delivery estimated on the site to my address) 2. I don't know the longevity of the bearings, but they are easily replaced, and the replacement bearings are a fraction of the cost of standard oem mounts. These are the compbrakes mounted on a 306: For comparison, these are the baker BM alternatives: ![]() I should also point out (taken from the BakerBM Website): Quote:BakerBM Adjustable Top Mounts £220 + VAT. Bearings, top spring pans and sleeved nuts sold separately. Please email us with your requirements. You can see what the 'maximum adjustability' relates to the actual hole in the chassis, rather than the topmount design. If you still want more adjustability, I've seen plenty of people modify the chassis like this: I've spoken to Compbrake; based on an minimum order of 5, they can do these at £90.75 + VAT + delivery each. Please note these are only compatible with coilovers. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Re: Compbrake Eccentric Topmounts - samass - 18-04-2012 miiiiiiight be tempted. then id HAVE to get coilies! is there an end date Ed? Compbrake Eccentric Topmounts - Ed Doe - 18-04-2012 No real hurry; I've already got mine lol Grant was just on at me at Ace to sort the group buy cause he really wants a set too! When you reckon you'll be ready? Re: Compbrake Eccentric Topmounts - ben306 - 18-04-2012 So to clarify "top spring pans and sleeved nuts sold separately". We would then have to buy these on top of the top mount? Could be interested, been looking at getting some for the AVO's for when I put them on the rallye. Ill make it more clear when I'm on the computer but that relates to the Baker offerings. Can i have them at this price sunday, i dont wona wait!!! lol RE: Compbrake Eccentric Topmounts - Just Sean - 11-10-2012 Sorry to bump an old thread, but did anything come about with this? RE: Compbrake Eccentric Topmounts - Ed Doe - 11-10-2012 I already have a set, Grant bought a knock-off 2nd hand set of spoox top mounts (same design), Sam crashed his car so is saving for 4-pots for the nad he bought off me, Jamie got sold the wrong set and only a few days ago returned them to compbrake who I believe had already sent out a replacement identical to mine, and JonnyB got a set 2nd hand of someone else, and ended up drilling and modifying some of the holes in his to make them fit. Think that about covers it. I'm still in regular contact with Iain over at Compbrake, so can organise another group buy at some point soon... But it may pay dividends to wait before ordering... ![]() RE: Compbrake Eccentric Topmounts - puglove - 11-10-2012 Not sure if mine have been sent out yet. Need to speak to iain. Dont think he gets what im on about when asking if he can supply the cone top hats. RE: Compbrake Eccentric Topmounts - Pompey306mark - 11-10-2012 I would get them off the people you supplied the coilovers. RE: Compbrake Eccentric Topmounts - Ed Doe - 11-10-2012 hmm, they're called spring top-cups iirc... Need to be slightly conical, rather than flat. He should know what you mean though tbh. If not ring Warren @ Gashocks; I've got his number, just drop me a text if you need it ![]() RE: Compbrake Eccentric Topmounts - puglove - 11-10-2012 Ok bud will bare that in mind . Cheers. Will be calling Iain soon anyway RE: Compbrake Eccentric Topmounts - cwspellowe - 11-10-2012 All well and good but the BBM ones are sheer porn, and mine are anodised purple ![]() Damn good price though, just a shame that everyone I know with them has had incidents with imaginary cyclists and BMW's ![]() Back OT.. great price and great bits of kit, i'd be in if I didn;t already have my D2 ones. RE: Compbrake Eccentric Topmounts - Ed Doe - 11-10-2012 Bahahahaa, FYC!!! I do like your D2s, but when I rang them up about their pricing, they said they couldnt get them to fit other coilovers, so for that I was out... RE: Compbrake Eccentric Topmounts - cwspellowe - 11-10-2012 Don't understand how if you use their spring top cup? Bit of cOnfusion over mine though, they're 306 top mounts but with much more camber than normal 306 ones :/ RE: Compbrake Eccentric Topmounts - puglove - 11-10-2012 (11-10-2012, 04:45 PM)cwspellowe Wrote: Don't understand how if you use their spring top cup?
