Head change- do the studs need replacing? - strictly_perv - 16-06-2013

As title really, just ordering parts for the car and just wondering if the studs need changing or not?

if you mean headbolts....defo

RE: Head change- do the studs need replacing? - Frosty - 16-06-2013

You mean the studs for the turbo manifold?

RE: Head change- do the studs need replacing? - strictly_perv - 16-06-2013

FAIL!
Yes I meant teh headbolts, wishful thinking I was getting studs but not on my budget Sad

Also does anyone know the thickness of the head gasket I should be getting? It's not for a skimmed head or anything.

I've never changed the head bolts when I've done a head change ...

Edit.

I always go for a 3 notch good quality MLS gasket

i went for 3 notch when i got mine. i got all victor reinz bits. head set, head gasket and head bolts for £74

Where did you get that from pal? Ill be dropping my head ff for skimming to prow so need to source a good gasket

RE: Head change- do the studs need replacing? - Frosty - 16-06-2013

I got the bits from a local car parts place. Your best bet is to phone around to see if anyone can get victor reinz bits

headbolts are like 12-16quid a set...not much to pay for the assurance

measure piston protrusion to check the gasket thickness, I think the last one I saw ended up being a 2 notch..

And for the money you may as well do the headbolts.

headbolts are stretch, you can measure them and see if they are still within tolerance. I've reused them before, not snapped one in the block yet!

head gasket thickness, just use whatever, really doesn't make much odds as they're very very close.

3 notch gasket, new bolts, can re use, but wats the point for 15 quid, altho if ur planning on raping the crap out of it, then uprate Wink

Just went to order head gasket, head bolts, rocker gasket, cambelt kit and some glowies for £147 from Eurocarparts but the f*cking card isn't working. So I'll try again tomorrow.
It's another £30odd for the head so it's making a costly mistake having this cambelt snap but it should be a good engine after this (until the rods make an exit).
Cheers for the help guys!

Use carparts4less cheaper than euro mate Smile

RE: Head change- do the studs need replacing? - strictly_perv - 16-06-2013

I've just checked and the parts I'm ordering are the same price. Aren't they the same company anyway?

RE: Head change- do the studs need replacing? - Danny2009 - 16-06-2013

Fair enough thought it mite be worth a mention

They are but think car parts for less come straight from warehouse to you usually a little cheaper

Managed to find a £15 off voucher code so managed to get the lot for £133 which is pretty fair.
