In my, so far failing, search for a decent shell...

I have come across a few properly decent petrols....

what is essentially involved to drop the xud11 in?

different tank sender?
different engine loom...
what about dash?!!

Off the top of my head, swap the dash clocks and wiring, clean or swap the tank and lines and the rest is engine and running gear.

judging by the detail of your 2.1 build I imagene you will give the shell the same level of attention? in which case strip absolutley everything out and put all the stuff of your derv back in, tbh it would probably be quicker and easier to strip the entire thing and rebuild that it would be just swapping the obvious stuff like the tank and clocks.

RE: petrol to xud - Piggy - 13-06-2013

hmmm yeah but the derv shell has gone now....and it was a phase1

Just wondered how universal the dash looms were...IE did they use the same loom for petrol/ecu.

Fuel tank/lines dont bother me...I'll just chuck some veg oil in and flush it.

does the petrol ecu live under the bonnet??...been a while since I looked at a petrol 306!

i would guess the looms vary a fair bit tbh, would be a few kilos of unnecessary wires in the loom that would make finding the ones you actually need a nightmare.

don't forget you would not only need to change the fuel tank but the biller neck and cap also as derv pumps don't fit and diesel/veg will cause petrol lines to go brittle and leak.
i still stand by my previous comment of stripping the shell bare and rebuilding it with the correct parts, easy enough to do the looms if its all in one lump still taped together, biggest pita will be changing the fuel tank as its a pain to get out at the best of times

surely fuel tank/lines is same?!

just filler neck and level sender/pickup

RE: petrol to xud - Jonny81191 - 14-06-2013

filler neck can be "altered" with a breaker bar apparently (ask DumDum)

and the sender is easy enough to swap.

yeah so tank/lines are ok?!

RE: petrol to xud - Jonny81191 - 14-06-2013

AFAIK man, can't see them being different.

cool.

its just easier to find a low millage minter thats petrol than diesel!
