Wanted: Fan switches - Matt - 11-02-2012

Lots of them, it's the brown one from the thermostat housing on xsi/gti

Can people sen me lots, I need to test, maybe refurbish the sensors and hope to god that sorts my fan issue

Re: Wanted: Fan switches - samass - 12-02-2012

surely one from gsf won't cost that much? [or ECP etc]

tho i may have one kicking about in my box of shit, i shall look for it on the morrow

Wanted: Fan switches - Matt - 12-02-2012

Rather they were free Wink

Also the ones on ecp say they open at 97'c and close at 93'c I'm sure standard they open and close different.

Plus ecp don't have any near me and gsf were £ra*e.99p lol

Re: Wanted: Fan switches - samass - 12-02-2012

ah i see, free is good!

whats your fan issue anyway?

Wanted: Fan switches - Matt - 12-02-2012

They don't come on. If you unplug the brown switch then they come on, just won't do it on its own lol

Re: Wanted: Fan switches - samass - 12-02-2012

ah right, yeah probs the switch then. you ccould always test it if you have a multi meter, just stick it in a mug of boiling water and see how the resistance changes.

ill check tomorrow for you anyway, think ive got one, not 100% tho

Re: Wanted: Fan switches - Chris - 12-02-2012

There only like 20 quid from pug iirc anyway.

Wanted: Fan switches - Matt - 12-02-2012

£20 I'd rather not spend Tongue just incase this isnt the problem and then I've wasted £20 lol

Re: Wanted: Fan switches - Niall - 12-02-2012

30 quid from pug. Looked yesterday for my birds 206 (same part number) as hers has packed up and is showing -40.
Matt, it could be the control unit. There not the best. I've got one here I can send you to try and if it works, you can pay me 1 billion dollars for it!

Wanted: Fan switches - Matt - 12-02-2012

Where Is the control unit located?

And 1 billion dollars?? Feck that!!
Cheeky reach around? Wink

Re: Wanted: Fan switches - Niall - 12-02-2012

If your looking at the front of the car, its behind the bumper on the right hand side. If you take that arch liner out and look up, you will see it bolted to the body above the horn.

And if it does solve the problem, you can have it for a tenner

Wanted: Fan switches - Matt - 12-02-2012

Okay that's a deal there, I have no arch liners so it could have got wet  lol

Re: Wanted: Fan switches - samass - 12-02-2012

just had a look, i have two blue ones, a grey one and two green [?] ones, but no brown ones. you can have then anyway if you like, just sitting in my tool box doing nowt

Re: Wanted: Fan switches - Niall - 12-02-2012

Green is for ecu and blue for dials. Green will make the car run better if yours is already fooked.
It's easy to check the brown if you can remove it

Re: Wanted: Fan switches - samass - 12-02-2012

ahhh did wonder where id pulled them from

Wanted: Fan switches - Matt - 12-02-2012

How do you check the brown?

Re: Wanted: Fan switches - Niall - 12-02-2012

Put your finger up there and see what's gwaning?

Haha nah take it out, put a multimeter on it and measure the resistance as you put it into boiling water.
If your going to do it, let me know and I will work out the resistances for you

Wanted: Fan switches - Matt - 12-02-2012

Yeah I'll do that with the newish ones, check to see if one is working before I put it in. Lol

Re: Wanted: Fan switches - samass - 12-02-2012

brown should go from infinite resistance to no resistance iirc
as its a switch and hence goes off, then on.

i may be chatting shit, in which case, ignore me!

Nope it won't. It will have a top resistance and the control unit will turn the fans on at a certain resistance. The only reason they come on when you unplug it is as a fail safe to protect your engine should something go wrong.

Re: Wanted: Fan switches - samass - 12-02-2012
